A recent letter based on a study of 18rhesus monkeys recommended that the birth order can influence individual’slevels of stimulation(ILS).In supporting this view, the author wrote that firstbornmonkeys had a higher level of cortisol as well as firstborn humans. But in myopinion, this conclusion is not enough persuasive.
First of all,the author conclusion wasbased of a study with a sample consisting of just 18 individuals. As we allknow,to draw a justified conclusion,we need to examine on a big sample.18 is areally small number, frankly speaking. What’s more, the author didn’t provide anyfurther information about the study, like the methods of measurement, theconditions of stimulation and so on,so it’s reasonable for us to hold adoubtful point of view about the data of the study.
Corsitol can’t be the only indicator ofindividual’s levels of stimulation.Even though the hormone cortisol primes thebody for increase activity level,it can’t directly represent the individual’slevels of stimulation which include a large aspects of activities, forexemple, psychology activity, physical activity, etc.unless the author providemore exact and direct data,we can’t believe in this conclusion.
Additionally, the author also provided thatfirstborn human had a alike effect as the monkey. From common sense we learnedthat humans are very similar with monkeys, but even in that situation, theregulation of the cortisol level between these two species is impossibly thesame!Providing that these two species have the same regulation system and thebirth order can both affect the ILS,this observation can not apply to all thespecies on the earth as we do not receive any further information about theother species.
In conclusion,to illustrate that the birthorder can definitely have a role in ILS,the author needed to provided morereliable and representative data, but not just the information of corsitollevel,or the similar study from firstborn human.
Additionally, the author also provided thatfirstborn human had a alike effect as the monkey. From common sense we learnedthat humans are very similar with monkeys, but even in that situation, theregulation of the cortisol level between these two species is impossibly the same! 只有这段有可取之处,而且很好。 其余的跑偏了,好好读读task instruction
