答案选的是D，但我觉得选B完全说得通啊，这小子暗地里偷偷募集竞选资金，所以听她表面上的声明是没有用的。求解释啊~~
还有每次类似这种题，我都觉得没法找对应，只有带回去看意思对不对，这样特别费时，而且句子一旦晦涩就特别没有头绪，求问各位前辈有没有什么好的方法。

If you say that something is futile, you mean there is no point in doing it, usually because it has no chance of succeeding.
He brought his arm up in a futile attempt to ward off the blow...
It would be futile to sustain his life when there is no chance of any improvement.
= pointless

futile用在这里明显不合适。
找准句子的主体，逻辑关系，然后去找同义词和反义词，或者正评价或负评价即可。
如本题，根据前后句意，属于同义重复题。
一种是，The senator's remark 如实，那么后面就是 running for a second term 的转述。
另一种是，The senator's remark 不如实，那么后面就是不running for a second term 的转述。
回去看看陈圣元老师的书吧，而且可以告诉你，句子越晦涩，题目越简单，句子越清晰，题目越难，ETS会在句子难度和词语辨析难度之间找到平衡的。
