Some people say we should never be impolite to another person.
It is commonly said that conventional culture and polite manners seem to be fading from the world stage as a consequence of the fast moving of society. Thus some may argue that it is unless to be polite to others who are so wrapped up in themselves. However, I strongly maintain that the quality of gentleness and politeness is a basic quality of all human beings, especially in such a overwhelming and crowd world nowadays. Therefore, people should never be impolite to another person to maintain harmonious public order.
To begin with, being polite is not only a way to show the gentile personality of a person, but also a requirement of a harmony society. It is hard to imagine a society where the citizens are mean, rude and ignorant: conflicts such as quarrels and queue-jumping happen every day and those impolite people totally do not care for the rights and benefits of others. As it mentioned above, the world today is busy, noisy and crowded, and if we want to lead a more pleasant and peaceful life, we must follow the rules of good manners and treat others with due respect.
In addition, politeness is a most valuable characteristic we can find in a person. For instance, to say “Please” when asking for something is the difference between requesting and demanding and “Thank you “ show equal respect, and convey humility and gratitude. Our parents have taught us that no one will like an impolite child, which is not just an idle threat. Being polite to others conveys to everyone around you that you are a person of character, and that you have standards in the way you conduct yourself. Indeed, the most popular and beloved people are always among those who are modest and good-mannered.
Last but not least, being polite is a powerful symbol of a civilized people. We can find numerous examples of how to behave politely and appropriately in classical writings from all cultures. Politeness is shown to be a basic quality of a gentleman and a lady in Europe. Confucius in china also listed it as one of the “six skills”, which is fundamental for Chinese hierarchy. Even in the present time, we still, by nature, advocate the essence of politeness in the personal development and social progress.
To sum up, being polite is not only beneficial to personal development, but also a guarantee for social stability. Therefore, we should never be impolite to another person.
