The line graph illustrates the amount of goods transported in the United Kingdom between 1974 and 2002 by four different ways of transport (namely road, water, rail and pipeline).
As can be seen from the line graph, the quantities of goods transported by road fluctuated from 1974 to 2002. More specifically, it rose and fell evenly during 1974 and 1978. Then, it boomed to just over 80 million tonnes in 1991. After that, it fell sightly in the next four years. From this point on wards, the number surged to nearly 100 after which it plateaued for about four years.
Then according to the line graph, the number of goods transported by water fluctuated as well over the same period. More precisely, it leveled out at 40 million tonnes during the first four years and surged to nearly 60 million tonnes after which it remained stable for over 10 years. Numbers in the next six years experienced a slightly drop before starting to rise gradually again. Similarly, quantities of good transported by pipeline saw a rising trend, growing from 5 million tonnes to just over 20 million tonnes. It is also interesting to see that the amount of goods transported over the same period rose and fell evenly at 40 million tonnes.
In conclusion, road remained the most popular method of goods transporting in the UK while pipeline were the least popular way though it was increasing between 1974 and 2002.
