答案是：1，2，1
对第二个答案很有疑问，为什么不是dispute呢，驳斥嘛
另外，that very myth指什么？

因为根本就不是驳斥，前一个空说rescue才是否认的意思。另外，dispute是辩论与争论，没有正负态度

第二空填“try to rescue the man"的反义词，因此选hold fast to。
the very myth指fate had decreed nothing less than a dire outcome.
第一种人积极rescue，第二种人消极接受，认为tragey无法避免。

rescue是救出的意思啊，没有“否认”的意思吧
dispute是有反驳的意思的：

柯林斯词典：

If you dispute a fact, statement, or theory, you say that it is incorrect or untrue. 反驳

例：He disputed the allegations.
他驳斥了这些无根据的指控。

例：Nobody disputed that Davey was clever.
没有人反驳戴维是聪明的。

反对的意思并不是指rescue字面上的，而是整句话的意思。整句话的意思就是说正因为不同意或是不认同才会想去rescue

哦，我差不多懂了，不过还有点小疑问：传记作家怎么会有rescue这个动作，不应该就是陈述事实吗？（当然，他可以赞扬，或者批评，表达观点……）他怎么能救人呢？
