Repression of painful memories is sometimes called “willed forgetting.” Yet true forgetting is (i) ______ than the phenomenon of repressed memory. In spite of the effort that it (ii) ______, repressing unwanted memories is less (iii) ______ than truly forgetting them, for repressed memories are prone to come back.

我的问题在第一个空，注意文中这个空后面有一个than，于是就把B排除了，选了A，意思是真正的遗忘比刻意的遗忘更少人为控制。我可以理解B的意思，但我觉得后面也不是冒号，前一句不一定就跟后一句意思一样，而A的理解也是通的。如果选B的话，than做何解释？感谢解答！

给你的句子必然前后会存在逻辑关系，不然放出来没有意义。而且control是一个主动词，memory能够被自己控制蛮难讲得通的…如果忽视前后关系的话，单从句法上说，abc都没有问题的

Different from, the generally safe choice, is more common especially when it is followed by a noun or pronoun.

less controll 不是和后面的effort可以对应吗

与某人/某事物不同
she is different than I'd expected
她和我预想中的不一样

BTW，effort也可以对应前面的 “willed”

提供一些对于空1的解题方法：

我们很容易知道，第一句和第二句，由于yet信号词的出现，是表示对比。回顾一下对比的常考特点：1. 直接与线索词正面对比 2. 语气强烈形成鲜明对比。第一句告诉我们repressed memory是“willed forgetting”，也就是，一种主动的主观的自我意愿的忘记。后面空2的词，是要选一个表达true forgetting和repressed memory关系的词。不看后面一句的话，直观感受是选一个willed的反义，就是非自愿的。然而，选项中并没有这样一个词。但是有一个trap就是“less controlled”，这时容易掉入trap。回顾对比常考特点1，“直接与线索词正面对比”，要反问自己，less controlled（没那么受控的）正面直接等于没那么自愿的吗？当然不是。这时候发现，唯一能表达和逻辑对比，只有B选项，different in its effect了。但是要先hold住一下，因为毕竟B选项并非正面强对比词，虽然含义没有问题。看后面一句，主要就是说，repressed memory跟true fogetting比的话，它是不持久的，说的是一种effect（效果）的对比。这里给了空1的B选项支撑。因此，综合来看，空1只有B选项合适。
