A PhD position with a five-year supportis available in Built Environment Simulation & Testing Lab at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in The University of Texas at San Antiono, starting from August 2015 or later. Tuition and insurance covered; monthly salary around 1600-1800 USD (20 hour RA work per week). Students with a strong background in thermal engineering (e.g., heat transfer, thermodynamics, etc.) and/or building controls are strongly encouraged to apply. • Background ina relevant area such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architecturalengineering, and energy management
• Documentedtheoretical and practical experience with relevant methods (any analyzing energy andcontrol systems in buildings, energy-efficiency improvement)
•English language skills, written and spoken
Candidates have Master’s degree in engineering or experience in one of the following domain is a big plus:
• Knowledge of adaptive/MPCcontrols and automation systems
• Knowledge of specific building simulation program including EnergyPlus, Modelica, etc
• Knowledge of Matlab
• Knowledge of R
Professor is Chinese, graduated from CMU. Since it is a RA position,Tofel and GRE are minimum effect. For candidates who have master, prefer 3.2 above at graduate degree (No requirement for undergraduate GPA). For bachelor student, GPA is prefer above 3.3. Working and connecting closely with large companies: CPS (major Texas energy supplier), TSERI (southwest research institute),and JW Marriott (equivalent to Hilton).
