Others arguing that the odds against such a pattern of impacts are large, postulate a single event-the impact of an object bigger than any asteroid the solar system now contains.

我的理解是这样的：

其他人反驳说：发生这样的模式的撞击概率是很小的，假设发生一次大事件，比太阳系中任何行星都大的物体的撞击是存在的。

这句话的意思是不是说，发生一次撞击的可能性是存在的。但是这样模式的撞击时不可能的？
