one way to predict the effects of global climates change on an ecosystem is to extrapolate current trends in global change factors into the future. A__of this method is that its predictions __actual observations，but the method also makes the questionable assumptions that the future will，resemble the present.
这个题第一空为什么填virtue呀从哪里可以看出来呀第二空填derive from. 求大神指导::>_<::

先看第一空，对应于最后一句里的“questionable assumption”，由“but”知道取反，所以需要填入正面的单词，选择virtue，表示长处。“peculiarity”中性词，不符合“but”的转折要求。
再看第二空，对应于第一句里的“extrapolate”，可知未来是由现有的trend推断出来的，因此选择“derive from”，表示从现有的“observations”推出“predictions”。“improve upon”虽然也暗含derive的意思，但是improve的这层意思纯粹是属于多余脑补，所以不选
