Description: We are looking for a talented individual to collaborate and facilitate research on new algorithms in mechanism design and distributed auctions. Responsibilities will include mathematical modeling, algorithm design, software prototyping, and running Monte Carlo simulations in a network traffic domain. Candidates should be strong scientific programmers and have some background in numerical optimization, simulation design, and auction theory.

2. Point Cloud Compression
Description: MERL is seeking an intern to work on new methods for coding and compressing 3D point clouds. The ideal candidate will have relevant expertise in computer graphics representation and compression, lossy or lossless image/video compression, familiarity with point cloud data related to mobile mapping and laser scanning, as well as experience with existing compression standards such as HEVC or H.264/AVC. Candidates at or beyond the middle of a Ph.D. program are encouraged to apply.

3. Robotics and Grippers
Description: The Data Analytics group is seeking an intern to work on the problems of multi-degree-of-freedom robot grippers for poorly defined or dynamically changing tasks. This task extends from the mathematics of gripping, to actual fabrication and testing of new robot gripper designs in an RL (reinforcement learning) robot control environment. Gripper technology is intentionally not limited to commercially available hardware; designs particularly advantageous to RL control are especially welcomed.
