The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records.
Ever since the video camera came into sight, we have been provided an accurate and convincing record by the application of it. Nevertheless, the traditional form of documentation - written records, will never be taken place of. In addition, considering the advantages and shortcomings of both of them and the diversity of circumstances, either of them can be the best method to record.
With no doubt, as an innovation of the technology's development, the video camera has its own advantages over the traditional way of recording. Comparing with the literal documentation, the camera offers more vivid and directed records to us. On TV, for instance, we can watch live broadcast on the sports games, such as NBA and World Cup,feeling that we are just in the scene. The cameras let us, after a decade or even more years, can recall some happy moment of the present. Therefore, we can see that the camera adds some light to the colorful life both in the present and in the future.
Moreover, the pictures offered by the video camera, convince us more because we can see what once happened or be going now. But the literal record will not avoid of some subjective justification for the reason that the record will depend on the standpoint of the author. As an illustration, in front of a person, who want to learn about something about Iraq War, there are two alternative - TV news, even the live programs and a newspaper, which will be the best choice? Of course it is the former in that it can give him a concrete feeling about the war with both dynamic pictures and sound of the scene. In a word, we do more trust camera.
However, the written records also have own advantages, which sometimes just the foibles of the video camera. On the one hand, the video camera can only record what really happen, but when it comes to some abstract things, such as social ideology and a person's thought, the camera has no way. And at that moment, people can turn to the traditional means, written records. Take some science fields as an example, like physics. When scientists do some experiments, it is important for him or her to record some feeling and comprehension down, not only the outcome of the experiments. On the other hand, unless there is electric power, the camera cannot work, let along about it can record the contemporary life and experiences. But for written records, the only necessary conditions are a pen and a piece of paper.
All in all, based on the compare above, we should not go very far to see that without the video camera we cannot get precise and objective records, and without the written records we cannot learn some abstract things and summary. Thus, if to conclude which of them is more important form of documents, we must take into account the circumstance and the main purpose.
