In this matter, no matter what is an individual's preference, he or she must be involved in such curriculum.
Another reason of contention with the speaker is that certain elementary discipline serves to provide a understratum for further advancement in one's academic career and facilitate the study in certain majors. Even recognizing the need of reform education into an individual-centered one, the importance of such elementary curriculum cannot be underestimated in the process of education. For example, the master of languages helps to communicate with others and then allows an exchange of mind; the study of mathematics promises one an insightful perspective and improves logical analysis. Such disciplines can never excluded from the curriculum of any education, for without the help of such common content of education, which has nothing to do with the need or interests of individuals, the further education catering such preference prove itself no more than an utopia.
In final analysis, I agree with the speakers' assertion for the proposed education can better improve the morale of students and benefit our society through expertise.
