In my point it is necessary to study history, not only because it is directly relevant with our daily lives but also because it immediately relates to most sectors of our society such as culture, politics, arts, military, science and so on.
Learning history could inspire us to meet the difficulties in our lives without the limitation of space and time. There are numerous difficulties which we confront now and then. In difficulties, we often puzzle in whether we should give up chasing our own goal or not. Through the study of history, we can find out that every significant individual’s success was from their great endeavors and never give up spirits. Beethoven lost his hearing at twenty nine, but the lost of hearing did not hurdle him becoming the most famous musician in the world. When Madam Curie lost her husband in one accident, what she did was to continue teaching her husband's students, while standing the twinge in her heart. Some great spirits of human being can ever exist and function to inspire their descents along the time’s going. Through learning those stories we can get courage to conquer those difficulties in our daily lives.

Through learning history, we could know where our ancestors came from, what our cultures about, and how those cultures came into being. Just as our Chinese people, when we learn Three Character Primer we get to know that our ancestors care about Golden mean, filial piety, Confucianism, etc. Those cultures not only existed in the past, but also can still exist in today’s human behavior in China. With the understanding of our cultures, we can know better and behavior better in our society.
Except knowing one nation's culture, the study of history can guide us in politics, military, science and so on. A famous book named The art of war written by Suncui has been studied by both oriental people and western people and has been used to military, politics, commerce, social science and so on. In politicians’ eyes the book told them how to treat with their opponents. In merchants’ eyes that book told them how to use their capitals in most efficient way. In social scientists' eyes the book told them how to deal with conflicts happened or maybe happen in society. All those great functions they got are through learning history.
