Issue4: 467 words  60 minutes
No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study.

Can any field advance significantly without the outsiders bringing their knowledge and experience? The speaker doesn't think so. Nevertheless the assertion goes too extreme. I concede that many outstanding achievements have been done under the help of outsiders, but there still exist some accomplishments that were finished all by the experts in one certain realm.

To begin with, the outsiders can bring some resolving methods and even creative ideas to the individuals who are in plight of their research. It has long been well known that one problem is often formed and determined by many elements that may lies in various realms. What's more, these elements are generally interconnected and interdependent. Thus, an expert, who is only familiar with the respects in her/his research area, can do nothing with the conundrum which involves too many areas. For instance, Einstein has got the idea of theory of relativism long before, but could not got a clear expression. So he turned to mathematicians, with their help, he finally gave the famous equation: E=m*C*C. To this extent, without the outsiders' knowledge and experience, there may be no such significant advance.

Furthermore, it is usually when the knowledge and experience brought by outsiders from some disciplines come to and combine with other, that much virginal areas emerge and momentous accomplishment are finished. A good case in point is BME----biomedical engineer, one of the most promising disciplines in 21 century. Its main characteristic is applying engineering methods into Biology and Medical and results in many significant original ideas and inventions, such as telemedicine, 3D diagnose and etc. Furthermore, with fast development of computer technology, computer engineers have helped to revitalize many traditional realms. And a lot new forms have appeared, liking E-commerce, Online-museum and so on. In this case, the outsiders are good to create and make novel advancements.

Admittedly, we can not ignore the contribution of insiders which also plays a vital role in the achievements in some areas. In the first place, in some subjects, insiders are the main and the only contributors. Let's take Mathematics for example, as we all know that it is the mathematicians that use "+, -, *, /" the four basic operations to build the mason of mathematics, who have seldom absorbed knowledge and skills from other subjects. In the second place, the insiders, who are regarded the experts in their fields and are familiar with the relative theories and principles, are the one most likely to make breakthroughs. That's also the reason why we can explain it is mathematician--Newton, rather than other outsiders invented the Calculus.

To sum up, it is true that with the help of outsiders, numerous advanced achievements have been done in many areas, but the importance of insiders also can not be underestimated, especially in the mathematical subject.
