The absence of choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare.

Does the circumstance or some other people mainly decide our life? This question raises several issues about  individuals. I concede that in some cases we can't choose but to accept what was called destine. On balance, however, I generally agree with the speaker that the absence of choice is a rare circumstance.

Admittedly, we can not choose some thing such as birth condition, social status of your family or your appearance. Consider, for example, Lincoln, the eminent president maintaining America's integrity and abolished the Slavery. He was born in a poor family and had only less than one year of formal education. It was also due to this condition that he suffered a lot for living early in his life. Or consider, Roosevel, another illustrious leader saved America from the Recession by famous New Deal. He was bonded to a wheel chair after a sudden illness. It was not his choice to have such a turmoil in his youth.  

Albeit the above point is reasonable to some extent, it only plays a, if any, supplementary role in my positive judgment; based on my cognition and observed facts, I persist in my view that we have abundant choice in our life.

First, to face the difficulties  in life, we can choose our attitudes. Should we persist in our principles and strive against the disadvantages, or should we cringe to a conservative place to protect ourselves from failure? The story of Rousseau, the well-known scholar and the proposer of many profound concept, such as freedom, justice, epitomizes the support to my proposition. Born in a poor family, he has little chance to have education at school. In stead, he travel around and did varies jobs from footman to assistance of emissary. Had he give up courting knowledge and  his dream, he would not have achieved what has great influenced many countries' settlement.

Second, another important reason for my proposition lies in the fact that we can choose our angle to think about the events. For example, some people complain that life is boring since they have no choice but to work day by day and repeat what is regarded as responsibility. It is true that in such a competitive world we can not stop working to do what we inclined to; even sometimes we seems have no opportunity to have little relaxation. But think about the case that years later when you are retired, it is quite possible that you may feel bored since you have nothing to do but relax. Considering the short period for us to contribute to people who have endowed us a lot and to the society, why don't we cherish these years? By choosing to thinking like that, the circumstance that may be regarded horrible is totally changed.

In sum, although I concede that we have not the freedom to choose everything in our life, I fundamentally think that there is enough choice for us to improve our living. In an era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasing life complexity and psychological displacement, the absence of choice is a circumstance that is fairly rare.
