Exercise:
What is a goal worthy? Does it mean that to achieve it is helpful to benefit ourselves? Does it mean that we should take any means to attain it? No! A goal is worthy only when it can help other people or contribute to society. Of course, it is reasonable that we make ourselves better without being harmful to others or the society.

If our goal is worthy as defined above, we should do our best to achieve it. If we have a goal getting the first price in the final examination, do it now! Of course, we cannot cheat in the examination. We should listen to the teacher in the class; we should finish our homework on time; we should review the lessons one paper by other. In a word, we should work hard day after day to attain the goal. If we have a dream being a president of our nation, it is undoubted that there are so many things and means we can and should do. We should master more and deeper knowledge about politics, economy, and technology and so on; we should take active actions to communicate with other people and to know others’ thought and need; we should learn to make an important or emergent decision well and truly. Without doubt, we cannot do harm to other people; we cannot break the law. In short, if our goals and our behaviors do not harm to other people and society, we can take “any” means to achieve our goal.

We can try our best to attain our goal through numerous methods and ways. However, we cannot harm the interest of other people or society as to get our achievement. In the first place, to other people, it is unfair. Other people are the same as us having ourselves goals and living a happy life with nice family. If we break their goals and destroy their lives, how do they continue to struggle and live? If they prevent us from achieve our goals as we stop them and unfortunately they succeed to get it, what are our feelings about this situation? We might regret our behaviors and prefer to give up our goal at the beginning. But of what avail is crying over spilt milk? We should do not harm to other people at the whole course of attaining our aim.

In the second place, to the society, we should serve it but not harm it. We can achieve our goal on the based of the development of society. The advancement of society and the development of technology provide antecedent conditions. See the examples given above. If we want to attain the goal being the first price in the final examination, the society provides us foods to eat, clothes to put on, and traffic to take; it offers us books to read, desk to sit, and pen to use; it supplies us telephone to communicate, television to entertain, and Internet to surf. Every things provided by society ensure that we can easily get to our aim. If we struggle to become a national president, the society offers convenience traffic such as private car and plane to communicate in different areas and countries; it supplies all kinds of knowledge to learn and to make decision; it provides a number of people to follow and support you, which at last helps you to succeed. Therefore, we can not harm the interest of society but protect it.

In sum, in the process to achieve our goal, we can not do harm to other people and the society. If our goals and our behaviors can greatly help others or contribute to society, do it in any way!
