TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
WORDS: 534 TIME: 上午 12:50:00 DATE: 2007-1-7
How to improve the effieciency of our education has been a long controversial questions in the education history. And recently, it is said that only when the education is specifically designed to satisfy the needs and interests of the students, can education be effective. However, i think both a set fo compulsory curriculum determined by the school and an auxiliary selectable curriculum available for the students are necessary to nesure the education efficiency.
To start with, education specifically designed for each student is more or less impractical for the various places and times considering the quality and quantity of the education rescources and the caprious reality situations. Imagining a country where the food are still the no.1 issue, how can it relocate some much rescoures to its education department ? In addition, even if there is abundant education rescources in some zones, the aim of the mass education is to try its best to inspire each teacher to provide much knowledge to students as many as possible, and if the rescources of education is relocated in that way, the teaching efficiency will be weakened largely for their needs to acquire a large range of knowledge and get well prepared to instill them to the students which is not so many, and when they teach the next generation of students , the knowledge they already hold may turn out to be useless. Hence, this kind of education pattern failed in considering the practical circumstances.
What's more, education only oriented on the needs and interests of the students is an education with an ambivious concept in that the real needs and interests of the students are in some way hard to find out for the students themselves and what's worse, they are rather changable. Students, especially youngsters need expertise advice to decide which is their real needs and interests, which may be quite different from what they thought in their own minds. For example, a student leads a remorse campus life may feel that playing net games or drinking , smoking are the stuff really needed for him and another " nicky" student may somehow find out that he has some talents in gambling, then should we provide some education according to these interests and needs? Obvious, we cannot. The purpose of our education is to provide pillars and a common promising future for our whole society, not to help the students to be what they what to be, regardless of whether they are clear about their needs and interests themselves.
Admittedly, it is true that education designed specifically to satisfy the needs and interests of the students can in a sense arose the enthusiasm and diligence of the students in the education process, which means that the students enjoying this kind of education pattern will definitely become more involved into the education procession in an active way rather than be poured into the information in a passive manner.
Therefore, in my opinion, to make the education truly efficient, both a set of compulsory curriculum determined by the specific professors in the school and some auxiliary selectable curriculums available for the students are necessary, since efficient education is a procession with bi-direction rather than a single direction.
