题目:ARGUMENT206 - The following appeared in a letter to the editor of the Parkville Daily Newspaper.

"Throughout the country last year, as more and more children below the age of nine participated in youth-league softball and soccer, over 80,000 of these young players suffered injuries. When interviewed for a recent study, youth-league softball players in several major cities also reported psychological pressure from coaches and parents to win games. Furthermore, education experts say that long practice sessions for these sports take away time that could be used for academic activities. Since the disadvantages apparently outweigh any advantages, we in Parkville should discontinue organized athletic competition for children under nine."

In this letter the author suggest we should discontinue organized athletic competition for children uander nine in Parkville. To explained it he take some facts: first, more and more children below the age of nine participated in youth-league softball  and soccer last year and over  80,000 of them suffered injuries ; second, many children who are youth-league softball playersin several major cities get psychological pressure from coaches and parents to win games; third, these sports take away time that could be used for academic activities which is said bu education experts. Careful examination of this supporting evidence, however, reveals that  it leads little credible support to indicate the argument.

In the first place, over 80,000 of young players suffered injuries can not necessarily indicate that the disadvantages of youth children join sport competition apparently outweigh any advantages. We should clearly know how many children parricipated in youth-league softball and soccer and whether over 80,000 of them is only a little number. Furthemore, we should find if have any other reasons for their injuries.

In the second place, the author falsely equate youth-league softball players in several major cities with all youth-league players. The several major players have psychological  pressure from coaches and parents to win games is little indication that the youth-league players of all major cities so far as the whole state have this matter.

Last but not least,  the education exports'  words lead little credible supportion. They think the long parctice sessions for these sports take away time that could be used for academic activities, in fact, we can take other time to study and if these time that we speed in parctice sports can be used for academic  activities can not necessarily indicate.

To sum up, we the argument is logically flawed and therefore unconvincing as it stands. To bolster it the author must provide clearer evidence that the disadvantages of children under nine  join in youth-league teams apparently outweigh any advantages in order that we agree with him.
