Noting that the idea of personality looms so large in the modern world, probably because as the society progresses, people are craving for more abundant information and distinctive ideas to adapt such a incessant varying world. We do are encouraged to focus on apparent differences, but do we fail to see meaningful similarities among ideas, individuals and groups? I don’t think so, so I will not agree with the issue above.

First of all, people never fail to notice similarities, actually, they never attempt to. Obviously, people chase differences is just because they notice the similarities and they get tired of too much of them. We need consistency after all. Who can imagine that the soldiers in the army wearing various clothes, some like being on vacation in Hawaii, while some like western cowboys, be strong and solidary enough to defend or to attack? That might be quite an interesting scene, but also terrible, hence impossible. Moreover, as far as nations are concerned, they can ally each other only if they realize their similarities of opinions on certain issues, of benefits their share, etc. On these similarities built the European Economic and Monetary Union, the NATO and so on, and the whole world is becoming a union as we see.

Secondly, it is people themselves focus on apparent differences rather than the society encourages them to do. The society is formed by people, whose living in the society lead to the formation of the conventions, mores, and trend of opinions. Similarities and differences are two edges of a thing which exist simultaneously, the more people focus on differences, the more similarities they had payed attention to. Therefore, they are not able to fail to see similarities, let alone meaningful ones. Say, although students are encouraged to have respective interests and to think independly, they use the same textbooks for learning in school. It is because the educators realize that the similarities of fundamental knowledge is important for them.

No doubt, there are possibilities that people fail to see meaningful similarities when they pay too much attention on differences. But it is the same as people may pay too much attention to similarities to notice they important difference. They, as a kind of mistakes, are unavoidable, but we could be more meticulous to reduce it.

In sum, people didn’t fail to see meaningful similarities among ideas, individuals, and groups, as the two are both significant to us. Neither do they want to be able to.
