Is it the artist, rather than critic whogives society something of lasting value? I can only agree with the author'sassertion from certain aspects. Admittedly, it is artist who creates works, while it is not rational to overstate the function of artist; actually, criticsalso exert great influence in the process of artists' creativity. All myperspectives will be presented as follows.
To begin with, it is artists’ creativitythat makes our daily life much more colorful. For instance, nearly every month, many singers will publish their new special, which creates both popular songsand classical music. Also, without the works of the writers, our life will beblank, for their works could make we consider our life and our dream carefully.Just imagine a world without artist; our life will surely be unmeaning. Fromthis aspect, artist enriches our daily life, and creates the lasing value.
However, critics help to select lastingvalue, and also play an indispensable part in our daily life, especially inthis information era. Nowadays, there are so many artists who created theirworks every year or even every month. But people's energy is limited, and it isinfeasible for a person to spend all his time on artists' works. Moreover, someworks are difficult for us to understand their meanings. Therefore it isnecessary or even desirable for someone to select which novel is worth ofreading, or which music is worth of listening, etc. Critics take this responsibilityand what they do is actually saving our time and helps us interpret those workswhich are difficult to understand for layman.
In the final analysis, critic and artistcan work together in creating lasting value for society. Artist' works oftenexist defects which decrease their values, yet, critic would serve to findthese defects, and find the advantage in the works at the same time. Thecooperation together will result in better work next time. Therefore, criticscan provide feedback and constructive criticism to artists, which exert apositive effect on artists' works.
In conclusion, I fundamentally agree withthe conclusion that it is irrational to overstate the function of artist orcritic. Actually, only when artist and critic work together will artist createdbetter works, for critics provide necessary feedback to artist and help peopleto enjoy works more effectively.
