这篇文章比较有意思。although I am rather critical of...,让步critical，主句不critical，即主句支持certain theory, 黄皮书没在身边，但记得主句是I am not making a plea for...之类的，即not sth。这样就清楚了：not sth=支持certain theory，所以certain thoery反对sth。
would not deny=支持。
