TOPIC: ARGUMENT188 - A new report suggests that men and women experience pain very differently from one another, and that doctors should consider these differences when prescribing pain medications. When researchers administered the same dosage of kappa opioids-a painkiller-to 28 men and 20 women who were having their wisdom teeth extracted, the women reported feeling much less pain than the men, and the easing of pain lasted considerably longer in women. This research suggests that kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is required, whereas men should be given other kinds of pain medication. In addition, researchers should reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women.

In this argument, the speaker suggests that the kappa opioids should be prescribed for women rather than men for the pain medication and the researchers should reevaluate the effects of all medications distinct from men and women. To support this, the speaker cites a study conducted to reveal the difference reflections between men and women after take the kappa opioids. Yet, the argument, depending on some unproved inference, is flawed and cannot reach the conclusion.

First of all, the study fails to support the argument because of its lacking the information of those patients' health conditions and the mothed taken to evaluate the effect is not scientific at all. To begin with, the speaker overlooks the possibilities that the women's wisdom teeth extracted are less painful than that of the men before they take part in the study; or the women in this study are younger in average compared with the men which means they might suffer less from the wisdom teeth. Thus, without more intraductions about the patients, the result of the study is questionable. On the other hand, the speaker reaches to the conclusion based on the women's feelings which is not a persuasive way to evaluate the kappa opioids' effection on women. Common knowledge tells me that different people has different standards towards the feeling of pain, and such describe is not a scientific meassure at all.

Then, no evidence provided that the kappa opioids could have effections to women under every condition but of little effections to the men, or other kinds of pain medications would be more effective then the kappa opioids does to men. To begin with, the speaker fails to rule out that the kappa opioids might have other effections especialized on the treatment of the wisdom teeth, which means the kappa opioids cannot be so useful when it comes to other kind of pains. Therefore, the suggestion that kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is required is groundless. Then, even the assumption above is reasonable, the comparison between the men and women can only infer that the kappa opioids are more effective in the treatment of women's wisdom teeth. And it is entirely possible that though women benefits more from the kappa opioids, it might still be one of the most effective pain medication for men’s treatment. There needs more evidence to support the assertion that men should be given other kinds of pain medication instead of the kappa opioids.

Last, it is unnecessary for researchers to reeveluate the the effects of all medications on men versus women. Merely based on the new report that suggests men and women experience pain very differently from one another cannot infers that men and women feel differently in all aspects. And the reeveluate the the effects of all medications is not prectical since the medications of today are countless and the reevaluation would costs a lot. Without more information provided, the suggestion is obviously cannot be accepted.

In conclusion, the method used in the study should be improves and the speaker should work more on the information collection about the way men and women experienced through the illness before he reach the conclusion.
