TOPIC: ARGUMENT238 - The following appeared in a memorandum from the president of Mira Vista College to the college's board of trustees.
"At nearby Green Mountain College, which has more business courses and more job counselors than does Mira Vista College, 90 percent of last year's graduating seniors had job offers from prospective employers. But at Mira Vista College last year, only 70 percent of the seniors who informed the placement office that they would be seeking employment had found full-time jobs within three months after graduation, and only half of these graduates were employed in their major field of study. To help Mira Vista's graduates find employment, we must offer more courses in business and computer technology and hire additional job counselors to help students with their resumés and interviewing skills."

In this argument, the author attempts to show that Mira vista's college should offer more courses in business and computer technology and hire addtional job counselors to help students with their resumes and interviewing skills in order to help their graduates find employment. The author provides some evidence to support the point. However, the evidence and the reasoning process seems more vague and hence that leads to doubt about the conclusion.
Firstly, it is not exactly that the graduate students from Green Mountain College are easier to find a prospective jobs comparing with the students from Mira Vista college. The survey doesn't provide the same results of MV college. In addtion, there is no evidence to show that students from GM college find the job of their studying field. The prospective employee may not provide the graduate students from GM a better job. Since the supporting sample of the report are doubted, the conclusion that the students from GM are better than the students from MV may not true.
Secondly, the report doesn't provide that there are some relationship between the business and computer courses with the results of finding a job. As far as we know, the results of finding a job depends on many factors such as the circumstance of the area, and the demands of the human resource market, and so on. In that case, the increasement of these course in MV college may not lead to the results of the increasing employment status of MV college.
