- DROLL: LAUGH# ?* T5 }9 z: o/ F
A. grisly: flinch
B. bland: tire
C. shrill: shriek4 c* q/ p" r! v" I6 y2 w# x5 [
D. coy: falter
E. wily: smirk
c5 M# G/ ^
Plausible
Bland:
a : not irritating, stimulating, or invigorating
: SOOTHING
b : DULL, INSIPID
*bland stories with little plot or action*
因为这个东西droll, he laughs;因为这个东西grisly, he flinches;因为这个东西bland, he is tired.

A. verve: flinch! ] b' ?1 j9 e. K& u
B. gall: skimp
C. pride: grovel
D. charm: smile, \8 D/ t/ F} u B. y W5 V4 x
E. poise: waver9 K2 F7 p. ?% z1 r; Y
e: `
Waver 1 : to vacillate irresolutely between choices
: fluctuate in opinion, allegiance, or direction
Poise 2 a : easy self-possessed assurance of manner
: gracious tact in coping or handling;
also
: the pleasantly tranquil interaction between persons of poise
*no angry outbursts marred the poise of the meeting*
b : a particular way of carrying oneself
: BEARING, CARRIAGE
synonyms see TACT
Freedom from affectation or embarrassment; composure.
——这里可以看出poise的对立面是affection/embarrassment,并非waver

E. stint: benefactor

C. aggrandize: venerate

——adumbrate
vt.
The recent development adumbrate a world-wide revolution in computer technology.

5. PROMPT8 C8 s* D9 ]; C/ y$ )- S& D+ r
A. Betray
B. check% A) p( ~! T" h# d, N" P) `
C. sway! J0 B0 d} B: S; Q/ p. D
D. complicate
E. defer8 J; R4 u& O, @3 u
Prompt 1 : to move to action
: INCITE
Incite : to move to action
: stir up
: spur on
: urge on
Defer:
to delay an action or proceeding *decided to defer voting until the next meeting*
Synonyms
adjourn, delay, hold off, hold over, hold up, intermit, lay over, postpone, prorogue, put off, put over, remit, shelve, stand over, stay, suspend, waive
Related Word detain, retard, slow; block, hinder, impede, obstruct; stall; extend, lengthen, prolong, protract
Idioms hold up on, lay to one side, put on ice, set aside
Contrasted Words accelerate, hasten, hurry, speed; expedite, further, promote
Antonyms advance

6. ABRADED: FRICTION
A. refined: distillate
B. anodized: metal
C. diluted: gas7 |3 d G' f8 x' l9 i2 n( E5 {
D. strengthend: pressure
E. vaporized: beat
ABRADED: FRICTION::
A. refined: distillate
B. anodized: metal
C. diluted: gas
D. strengthened: pressure
E. vaporized: heat
Friction: The rubbing of one object against another. It would cause the object to be abraded.
It seems 'A and E' would be most likely. But "A. distillate" means a purified liquid, so it would not fit. (I think it should be replaced by "distillation".) Then it's E? "Vaporized" is not the direct result of "heating"? Besides, "heating" can cause "warming" or "melting".
What do you think? Thank you.
My favorite is E. There is a common pattern between 'Abraded: friction' and 'Vaporized: heat' and it is that of a natural phenomenom or physical cause. Whereas with A it has to be a man driven transformation that takes place for the 'refined' state to be achieved. There's that and also the fact, like you said, that it would have to be 'distillation' instead of 'distillate' in order for A to be consistent with the other options.
