等了一个学期,终于等到了自己觉得比较对胃口的课。美国的规划对于理论和数据要求很严格,反倒对于技术方面强调的不多,因为我是urban design concentration的,所以个人对和技术以及实例相关的东西更感兴趣一些。下面介绍一门PennDesign规划系的urban design concentration学生必修的一门课,CPLN 708-Urban Design Methods, n! ]) X( l& ~, f0 A$ d1 Q

This course is designed as an introductory survey of urban design
d! C% U, g* T- b' n8 ^# ^! S. _! emethods associated with both practice and research. The course begins with a series of discussions
) D9 \; _& v+ i6 c. b9 u& xon the field of urban design, attempts at definition, history of the field, basic epistemology, traditional

7 K; V# ^! ]) S, T$ r+ ?The first half of the course concerns issues and methods in urban design practice, situated either in
( N+ ]0 {; @6 c8 Y) k3 n$ othe private or public sector – including both direct and indirect design. Topics to be covered in this) s& V+ g' L. Y2 u* b4 B
portion of the course include: design processes, land use controls and development standards, code
; Q& ]. l# P9 ]8 A6 jwriting, regulation, design guidelines, non-computational representation techniques, design# V# ]' F( e4 n* }. k4 f* n9 R: T+ N
participation, urban design planning and strategizing.

% _( v* D7 D4 Y3 mThe second half of the semester then focuses on urban design research methods in both professional
% w+ o, T& N8 J) B/ k) D7 mand academic settings. We will review common models of research design within the field and the* S7 y( ?- U. {1 V1 z7 ~/ g
increasing use of social science methods in response to external pressures. Students will be exposed
& k/ V% G( n: yto various research methods used to understand and analyze urban form, social behavior and
) X, }: _$ d7 O) E) Eenvironmental psychology. We will also examine various methods in built environment analysis,
; m9 A% h- N$ x9 Nincluding both morphology and typology. Both qualitative and quantitative methods will be examined1 a: y% e3 ?, t& U. g/ ^8 J6 t S
and built into course exercises.

recommended for students who intend to practice either direct or indirect urban design, as well as* ?: \7 f; ]( z& \% X3 S
others who plan on working in positions dealing with project development, design, or long term
) U7 V; B. g& b ?7 T- D7 Dplanning. No prerequisite courses are required for entry into the course, although some familiarity/ C9 R. u! Z* R. Q% L; @* w
with the Adobe Creative Suite is required.
