对不起大家,我昨天有事情,所以空了一天,如果今天可能,我会补出来,如果不能,大家谅解了.
126"Facts are stubborn things. They cannot be altered by our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions."
The question of whether facts are unchangeable stubborn things or flexible things that can be altered by our proclivities, or wiliness has frequently puzzled us in observing phenomenon, presenting commentary and offering conclusion. In my point of view, the above statement must come under the careful scrutiny on a case-by-case basis.
For those facts that can hardly be altered by human will, what comes first naturally to our mind is on the individual level. Some people attempt to alter or conceal facts by refusing to admit the true happening, denying facts, telling lies, distort truth and what is worse, to retire from human society which proved to be futile and counterproductive. As we know, experience are part of the valuable heritage we own in our life and victory and defeat accompany each other forever, realizing these, we should rationally consider and analyze the objectivity of those facts that shadows on our confidence, exert heavy burden on our psychological condition or pose threat on our personal achievements and if we finally come to the conclusion that no matter how unpredictable that the hard facts may seem to be, the best way to cope with is to love life as the way it is and enjoy life as the way it is. Another aspect that I argue facts as stubborn is in the history field. Admittedly, facts in history are the true occurrence of yesterday which yields to no manpower of alteration or adulteration. Someone may argue that historians may provide several tentative and plausible explanation to one historical event which confuse people that it seems every point make a sense but not a whole. I would say that the different explanation is the result of lacking relevant historical documentaries or materials or insufficient research methodology, which means that facts are actually stands, not subjecting to any human intervention. The third example that aptly illustrates the objectivity of facts is in the natural science field that is marked by their scientific and cautious methodology and their respect toward truth and facts. Although sometimes, due to the outside forces or failure in laboratory equipment, people make wrong claim such as the earth is the center of cosmos, which were ultimately, overthrew by the development of observatory equipment and diminishment of theocracy.
But in certain aspect of social life, facts do can be changed by manpower in an effort to cater to the need and taste for a specific group of people. For example, in the business world, some companies engage in false advertisement, unfairly exaggerate the function of their products and deceive the costumers to purchase their product, which they actually being mislead by the mass propaganda campaign. In this case, facts are smeared with lie, but due to the subjectivity of mass media promotion tools, we can hardly tell their minor difference. In the political life, this phenomenon is even more conspicuous. Facts may be held or altered from general public out of the consideration of avoiding general panic and keeping national security. Consider, how much trouble it would be if the national security office inform the public that the terrorists is going to attack this country. While in some cases, it is necessary to withhold some information from the public, but in others, concealing or altering facts in politics are simply the dirty tricks played by some greedy politicians or contending political parties, all of which require us a keen insight in discriminating what is the facts and what is not.
