ISSUE243 - "The true value of a civilization is reflected in its artistic creations rather than in its scientific accomplishments."
The civilization of a society is reflected by the quality of the life and the quality of the thinking of the people. Scientific accomplishments indicate the quality of life and artistic creations represent the philosophical state of the society. Although in some cases, some artistic creations are even assisted by scientific artifacts and hence reflect the contemporary technology, the true value of civilization can’t be measured by scientific accomplishments or by the artistic creations only. Both of these in combination represent the true value of civilization of the society.

Let’s talk about the true representation of the current civilization. This society is well said as the global village. High-speed communication, easy access to the information and flow of thoughts and idea around the world reflects this information age civilization. These scientific accomplishments are the indicator of quality of life. Similarly, high speed transportation, medical enhancement, advance agricultural practices, automatic and virtual intelligent gadgets are also important indicators of life style. Whereas the artistic creations like movies, novels represent the way current people think, which are also important indicators of civilization.

Some may argue that arts and literature of middle age best represents the civilization. However, these creations only represent the way people think, their philosophy and their priority. The irrigation canals, urban water supply systems, communication system and many other scientific advent of that era help us understand the quality of life and a complete understanding of their way of living. These add up to the better reflection of the civilization.

Moreover, some artistic creation even represents the scientific achievement of the society. For Example, drawings of Vinci, not only reflect his as well as the contemporary views but also shows the scientific advancement in the printing and painting process. It can be the true value of civilization as it represents thought and the technology of the society at once. Additionally, Egyptian civilization can be best understand by Mummies which represents the culture, thoughts and myths of their society as well as preserving technology of that era. But other scientific accomplishments should be assessed to understand the complete life style.

In conclusion some artistic creations reflect the life style as well as thinking process of the society, while scientific accomplishments should also be assessed to understand a civilization. In sum, true value of civilization is reflected both in artistic and scientific achievements of the time.
