Does advice given by older people more important than from peopleyour age?
Asa Chinese ancient saying goes, “If you don’t listen the older people’ssuggestion, you will make some mistakes immediately.” I can not agree with itany more.
Olderpeople possess much plentiful experiences that younger people, so their adviceis of great value. Following their suggestions, the young people will make lessmeaningless mistakes, thus their study and work will become more efficient. OnceI begged my mother to teach me how to stir-fry eggs with tomatoes, which was myfavourite dish. She told me to add some oil first then put some onions into thepan before the oil was heated because if I put the onions into hot oil, theywould popped out of the pan. However, when I hurriedly to have a try after her demonstration, I was so excitedthat I forgot to put the onions into the pan in time. Consequently, my hand washurt by the hot onion. Almost everyone has been through some similarexperience. When we were told not to play with fire, we approached a piece ofpaper to the candle and then it might ignited a pile of newspaper. The olderpeople share us with their personal experience as to warn us not to make thesame mistake as they once did.
The older people has more knowledge compared with the youngerones, so their knowledge will help us to make the right choices and avoidfailures. On average, the older people learned more things than young people,especially in their own field or career and that is a great sources ofprofessional conductions. Due to the lack of knowledge in a certain field, theyoung people’s advice is not as reliable as the older ones’. For example, Iwasn’t good at English listening skills when I was at high school, so I askedsome advice from both my English teacher and my classmate. My friend told methat she thought watching some American TV programs would be helpful. But myEnglish teacher first analysed the reasons of my problems and then made adetailed training schedule for me. She advocated that I should start from doingdictation and listening VOA Special English because I didn’t have a largevacabulary at that time. Actually, I tired their methods for monthes and itturned out that my English teacher’s advice was comparatively helpful, Iimproved a lot by following the schedule she made for me. As for my friend’sadvise, I should say that she simply thought that the more I listen the betterI would do. But I couldn’t understant the contents of the programs because ofthe numerous new words. So the professional advice from the older is muchbetter.
My last point is advice from the older people are moreobjective. From a biological standpoint, the mental state of young people isnot as mature as the older people. So their proposals may tend to be more aggressiveor extreme, which definitely shouldn’t be received as good advice. On the otherhand, the ideas from older people is much more concivable and practical.
After examnined the topic from different angels, I stronglybelieve that the advice from older people is more improtant than that fromyoung people because they are more reliable, trustworthy, professional andpractical.
