Facts are stubborn things. They cannot be altered by our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions.

Whether facts are stubborn things actually depends on what kinds of facts they are. Some facts are really obstinate and cannot be altered by our subjective inclinations, such as the truth, the principles, the previous things, etc. However, there are still some facts which can be changed by people's wishes and efforts.

Facts about the basic principles of the society management, the universe running, and the like are all objective things which cannot be changed by human beings. Just as the Marxism philosophy points out: subjectivity cannot decide objectivity. That is, the subjective spirits of people have no ability to alter the existing disciplinarian. For example, the earth rotates the sun; the price of goods swifts around the actual value; all individuals would have an ending someday. These are all facts people cannot deny, not mention to change. It is really ridiculous to consider that someone wishes the sun rotated the earth, and then his/her dream realizes; the price and value principle fades just because businessmen desire to earn more money and customers want to save; and all people survive for ever as they do not want to die. In this sense, facts are really stubborn.

Another kind of facts concerning the things happened before is also unchangeable with the human thoughts. History cannot be recreated for humans have no ability to return to the previous time. These history things have been objectively existed. No matter how the posterities want to change their predecessors' circumstance, they can do nothing about this. For instance, the development of nuke has brought about tremendous danger to human society; the total nuke in the world now can destroy the earth hundreds of times. However, people cannot return to the history to impede the discovery of it no matter how desirable they are. When faced with such things, people may just take a sigh at their unchangeableness.

However, the above phenomenon does not indicate that human beings have nothing to do but see the nature control all of our lives. Actually, facts concerning human's quotidian life------the material living circumstance, the spirits condition, the interconnection with other people or groups, etc-------can all be altered if only humans want to and exert efforts to realize that. For instance, a child living in a poor family but craving to get a rich life may study diligently and strive for one's potential future, and through consistent effort can one absolutely fulfill one's dream. Just from the numerous successful businessmen who start with nothing people can easily understand that they can alter facts as long as they want to. Or considering a person who suffers from melancholy, he/she can change his/her psychological condition through treatment by the doctor. Still, the once harsh relationship between people can also be changed if these individuals have more tolerance and social responsibility. All of these facts can be altered by people if they exert their efforts. Then how can we say that all facts are stubborn things?

From the analysis above, one can easily realize that the statement actually makes a vague projection. For judging the actuality of it, one must give a clear definition of the facts. Different kinds of facts will lead to diverse results: Some can be altered while others cannot, depending on if they are basic principles and the truth of the society or if they have happened.
