中心:首先承认事实不可改变,给事实下的定义:已经发生的事情
如果看上去事实是改变了,其实是人类自己的对事实的认知在改变。
"Facts are stubborn things. They cannot be altered by our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions."
Just as the proverb “the die is cast” goes,we can not change the things which have already become facts because of their objective reality. Everyone could get this experience from our daily lives; take the exams, which our college students are most familiar with, for example. People are always murmuring that if only they had studied more or how much they wish they had studied more after they fail in those exams as if their scores would be altered by repenting their laziness. However, in most cases, these kinds of facts can not be changed for it is the professors who are in charge of our scores but not ourselves. In another word, as far as I am concerned, no individual can simply change the matters which have already happened.
We may find far more illustrations supporting the statement throughout human history. Although the Pope declared the Copernicus’s heliocentricism as a heresy in Middle Ages and prohibited anyone from learning or spreading it, their efforts were in vain. No one could change the truth by his own wish for truth is bound to be demonstrated as truth. Bruno was thrown into fire because of his faith in heliocentricism, yet the fire could only burn his body off, leaving his spirit as well as his faith still exists in the world. Although today, from our standpoint, the theory he stuck to was only partly true, it is just merely a question of the limited perception and knowledge, the universal principle which the theory was based upon will never be altered by our human wishes, inclinations, or the dictates of our passion.
Let us take a deep look at history; people are always arguing the authenticity of our history. Some of us believe that the historical data recorded in document is not so convincing because it is one himself who recorded it, which may call the facility into doubt. Admittedly, sometimes it is true that the writer may put some personal emotion into his record and it is also undoubted that this kind of modus operandi will weaken the objectivity of the record. However, we should discern the human descriptions from the historical facts. The facts could never be changed because they have already past and we can not turn back the times. The only thing we could do is to alter our perceptions and ideas about history, which some of the writers did in the past. That is why some may say that the fact is changing, one thing looks like right at the moment will probably be wrong in the next second. Or some may even allege that he could vary the facts according to his own inclination. He just misunderstands the definition of fact, which is the real truth but not the recognition of us human race.
Generally speaking, facts are stubborn things; they will not and could not be changed by our inclinations, wishes and passions. If there still some question about the objective reality of facts, which I take a leave to doubt, then it is the human being themselves but not the nature of facts that create them. |
