Clean sheets in previous nine matches! Arsenal’s record was renewed again. A 1-0 victory on the last Highbury show in UEFA was just in my prediction. Young Gunners destroyed yellow submarine by a bomb from Toure. Six days later, they will face Villarreal’s challenge in Spain. The result is acceptable to Spanish team; they may be organizing a home-game reversion.
This game is a direct competition between Henry and Riquelme. Actually, Arsenal took the advantages from the beginning, pressing opponents by quick tackles and accurate short passes in midfield. The first yellow card came out for Villarreal at the 3 minute. Long shots from Toure and Forlan did not trouble goalkeepers. A “goal” was canceled because of Henry’s offside. Ljungberg and Pires followed to try their luck, but useless. Requelme’s free kick was greatly saved by German goalkeeper Lehmen. Both sides tried to control the game under their own pace. Arsenal’s better work added much abandon on Villarreal’s defending. As the match processed to the 41 minute, the attacking tactics of Arsenal’s were paid off. After receiving a straight pass from Henry, Hleb created a chance for Toure’s shot. 1-0! Gunners reigned little supreme. Following was nothing special happened. Highbury spectators were delighted for a good result in the 1st half.
In the 2nd half, Villarreal did better job in ball possession. But a boring situation lasted for several minutes. The referee made a mercy on Villarreal defender’s clip. Later, Henry’s right-leg shot was also unsuccessful. Tacchinadi fouled on Fabregas, slowing down the pace. On one hand, Arsenal maybe hoped to score one more to solid edged foundation for next round. On the other hand, Villarreal was thirsty for an away-game goal in order to play easier in Spain. Henry’s another shot lacked power and was got by goalkeeper. Few chances existed as follows. The former result lasted until the end of match.
From my perspectives, Arsenal should have won more. The Statistics explained a big difference of performance between these two teams today. A hard game is now waiting for them, since a qualifying team will appear six days later in Spain. A new power is rushing towards old situations in UEFA. We wish to see that always.
I still stand on Gunners’ side.
