130 How children are socialized today determine the future of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.
A stability of society calls for a better socialization of its citizens, while hardly can it determine the future of certain society how children are socialized and there's no reason for adults to be pessimistic that the future generations might not bring about a better society.
Admittedly socialization is essential for certain society because the ability of communication, or say, transmission of a variety of information is basic for the understanding between the citizens of the society. So it's really a problem that children of the society fail to get socialized. As for individuals, at their adulthood, a lack of skills in communicating with others which comes from their lack of getting along with peers in their childhood, results in obstacles to either their career or daily life. Then hardly have they got training in cooperation and leadership, it takes more efforts to achieve effective work.
The generation, which I belongs to, can be illustrated here as an example. The policy "One Child Only" has been operated for 30 years, which leads to the situation that most citizens at the same age as me have been brought up without accompanied with brothers or sisters. To much care concentrated on the child, he or she is more likely to turn out egoism, and fail to tolerate others, also know little about skills in expressing their feelings and opinions properly. The dilemma China now confronting explains the significance of the socialization of its future generation for the problem concerned with social skills of the youth might be avoided with a more flexible policy because such question had not been discussed until the policy was carried.
However, there are much more factors rather than socialization of children only that influence the future of the society. How widely the basic education is access to the children, how skilled are the future generation in technology, and what's also radical, the health of the youth are all essential to the future of the society. Even such problem brought by "One Child Only", it can hardly viewed as disaster of the society. Actually, though complains raise, the lack of training during one's childhood can be compensated by a later one to some extent. Again the example of the "One Child Only" explain this point: with more and more only-child take part in the society, situations have not turned worse, and even a manifest improvement has taken place, thanks to the development in the education and medical care.
What's more, so called "a better society" dose not stand for an absolute conception, and the evolution of certain society is likely to be controversial. So it's meaningless in seeking for a way in which people can raise children enabled to bring about a better society even when the goal is ambiguous.
In conclusion, attention should be focus on the socialization of children, however, it's not the only element for the development of the society. Also it calls for confidence in the future generation that they can solve the deficiency on themselves. Just like only-child, the beaten-generation also had solved their own problems. Whether accepted or not, society is evolving towards a better one, even though different issues may stand in the way to improvement.
