TOPIC: ISSUE6 - "The most effective way to understand contemporary culture is to analyze the trends of its youth."

What is contemporary culture?As socialogists once defined ,culture includes material culture,social culture,ideologyl,and art.Is it the most effective way to understand contemporary culture by analyzing the trends of its youth?
Well,
my point of view are discuess,as follows.

Materials culture mainly means the products of human manufacture,such as technology.By witnessing more and more youth tend to send e-mails rather than write letters,more people play PSP,wearing IPOD,we know that electronic technology is highly sophisticated and popular nowadays.However,what what popular among the elders does not necessarily be reflected on our young generation.What the old wear?what they use?By analyzing them on the young,we might, a lot of times do, be doing something in vain.Because it is simply that the young don't use them at all.

As to social culture,it is people's form of organization such as kinship and marriage.By analyzing the trend of youth, we know that more and more young couples divorced at an early age in China.Divorce in China use to be seen as an embarrassing loss of face and cause for anger and grief by almost all concerned.By analyzing the trend,we now that people in China are more and more tolerant and understanding,also people have more freedom to choose and master their own happiness rather than trapped down in the bog of misfortune.However,old people like my parents are still so deeply committed to the form of marriage.

Think of Ideology includes values,beliefs,ideals in which religion is part of beliefs.Nowadays,more and more youth believe in Science.It is true that the dramatic development in science and technology does have a influential impact on our young generation.Nevertheless,the older people are too imparting their values,beliefs,and ideals into their children or grandchildren.Believing in science,we also see a time that more and more students turn to religion for comfort and faith these are equally important as truth for their living.However,still there are a lot of older people who take religions for guidance of both truth and faith,such as believing eating the ash from the temple can cure illness,etc.Don't be surprised,there is indeed a lot of old people thinking in this way in China,especially in rural places.

Last but not least,art forms such as music,sculpture,painting,etc.By following the trace of the young,we see rock and roll concerts,jazz club,street break dancing,wearing clothes combined from east and west,etc.This is indeed the fashion of our time,music of all kinds from R&B to Folk,from musical to jazz.Whereas the old people like in my grandma's generation, all they like is the opera including Peking Opera,Yue Opera,and so forth.

In conclusion,by analyzing the trend of youth,we can get a quick understanding on part of our temporary culture because,youth only account for part of your society.Besides them are the old.The old people are essential in presenting our contemporary culture too.You may think they are stubborn ,or out-of date.Nevertheless,it is the old one who embody tradition,and tradition is a large portion which contemporary culture embraces.Cultures such as religion,morals,classic art are all handed down from them to our contemporary days.Thus in order to get an effective understanding of contemporary culture,we need both analyzing the trend of youth and old.
