TOPIC: ISSUE88 - "Technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics."

The speaker states that technologies not only impact our social customs and ethics,but also determine the latter.Although the author arbitrarily broaden this notion by asserting social customs and ethics are determined by technologies ,on balance,I agree with the statement and hold that though technologies heavily influence our custom and ethics,the determinant involves multitudes of other factors.
To begin with,technologies actually have changed our lives.Technologies promote the progress and prosperity of human civilization.Industrial Revolution brought us many technology innovations,such as the steam engine,which free people from burdensome labor and accelerate the efficiency of production.
Besides,our customs and ethics are influenced.The ways of communication are changed due to the development of technologies.Tele-communication tools such as the telephone,mobile phone,tax,email and Internet,which have thoroughly overturned the ways of people's communication,have replaced the traditional means of communicating including paper letters and oral messages.In addition,the means of learning knowledge are still changed little by little.Reading books is no more the only way of learning.Teaching by long-distance technology,such as television and Internet,is gradually accepted by people.What's more,in ancient China,it is believed that the responsibility of women is doing housework and nurturing children,However,women began to go out of home and start resplendent careers in factories,companies,governments and the like.
On the other hand,the development of technologies has definitely resulted in a series changes of our ethics,After the study of genetics,the traditional notion lasting for thousands of years that marriage within a family can make people closer is upset.Scientists discover that marriages within one's family is deleterious to the next generation.Thus,the marriages in proximity of blood are forbidden by the law.
Admittedly,the customs and ethics are impacted by technologies,but technologies should be restricted by ethics.With the progress of technologies,the ethics system is eroded by technologies,such as the commitment on the Internet,the computer viruses,the abuse of clone,the diffusion of nuclear weapons and just the like.We should apply these new technologies to the place that is benefit to our human beings.For example,we can use clone to make a same but new organ for the patient whose organ has to be changed.Furthermore,we can utilize the nuclear to replace traditional sources to protect our environment.
Finally,there are many other alternatives that influence the customs and ethics.Dragon boat festival is generally believed to celebrate the memory of Qu Yuan,a great patriotic poet in ancient China.And the replendent civilization is generated through five thousand years in China,lay the foundation of our ethics,such as being friendly,respectful,loyal and so on.
In conclusion,I definitely advocate that technologies influence our customs and ethics.Nevertheless,I can not agree with the determination of technologies to the customs and ethics.So,pay attention to the influence of technologies,but should never overlook other factors.
