136"The absenceof choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare."
The pessimistic insist that our life are constrained by mandatory laws and rules, which control our behavior and choices. In addition, they may argue that the born condition of our family and even our gene determines our destiny. However, I agree insofar that in quite extreme condition, people have no choice but to accept the reality, while the absence of choice, in most condition, is too pessimistic and extremely rare.
In some countries, especially undeveloped countries, such as Africa, even parts of areas in China, India, many people are still fighting with poverty and inequality, while governmentsstill give enough support to these areas. Even worse, most of them are still facing the dilemma of solving the basic living needs, such as foods, not evento mention of the opportunity for education and have a better job. For those people, they have no choice but to receive the reality that lacking of enough resources and opportunities. Aside this extreme example, I tend to agree with the statement.
First of all, ourlife is a process of making choices. And human beings are born with free will to decide which we will accept. In modern world, most of people share the same opportunity for education, entertainment, and freedom, which means all the people stand in the same starting line. First, some people may argue that we can’t choose the our born, like some people born in a rich family, while some born with poverty, we can choose to work hard and improve ourselves trough education. Second, some people may insist that we cannot make a choice about the results, for instance, we cannot make a choice of death, but we can determine the process of our life, like whether it is a healthy one or not, how we will spend in our lifetime(what we want to do, and so on). Even extremely, some people are too pessimistic to argue that it lacks choices about the process. However, this condition is impossible, for the reason that we are not machines, which work in a step by step way that conforms to the programming set for it.Compared with them, human beings possess the ability of free thinking, which decides the freedom of making choices, according to the stimuli of condition. Therefore,no matter how terrible of our start, how unacceptable of the result, and how rigid of the process, the absence of choice is impossible.
Next, our life are controlled and constrained by mandatory rules and laws, but they are the same to all the people of our society. It is no fair by assuming that they may detrimental to the freedom of our choices, while in contrast, they provide us with a environment with justice and equality that avoids the unbalanced allocation of the opportunities to all the people. Therefore, Laws and rules are not limitation but guarantee of our choices.
