1. 历史建筑和现代建筑之间的矛盾是人类发展的必然产物。尽管历史建筑都曾经在人类的发展中发挥了非常重要的作用，但是在现代社会中，历史和现实的矛盾逐渐变得越来越明显。相比之下，现代建筑的目的则更为实用，随着人口的增多，城市变得越来越拥挤，而生活在都市中的现代人类似乎更看重效率和自身利益。这时候，历史建筑和现代建筑的矛盾就产生了。

2.如何解决这种矛盾呢？难道保留历史建筑就一定会妨碍社会进步与发展么？就一定不能为modern purposes服务么？我看不见得。旧建筑同样可以发展经济。比如旅游业，“固化的过去 solidified history”，装点城市（不同风格的建筑结合）。

3.而比旅游业更重要的，比吸引外国游客更重要的是（1）有些古老建筑代表了一个国家的过去、文化，是国家历史的见证，破坏历史遗迹代表忘记国家历史。没有文化的民族是可悲的。一旦毁坏，不能再生。他们具有历史价值，是文化遗产，是文化发展的标志，拆掉会使城市失去特色。

4.当然（让步），空间资源有限，我们并不是要全部无选择的保护。历史和现实的矛盾充斥在社会发展的过程中，在这两者之间找到平衡点至关重要，一方面，在发展现代社会的同时要保留在过去有重要意义的重要建筑，另一方面，有需要让保留的历史建筑尽可能的不影响社会的发展。我们要根据其价值，完整性等对其估量，对较小的地方可以完整保护，对于较大的可以分区保护；有的没有价值没有特色又破旧可以拆掉，有的古老建筑可以在修缮基础上服务于现代社会，带来效益。

5. 历史遗迹和现代建设并不冲突。为了一时建设需要损害历史遗迹是短视的行为，这样反而会损害经济发展。

中文解释：大多数人都会同意建筑是任何过去社会的珍贵记录。但是当旧的建筑矗立在那些现代设计者认为可以更好用于现代用处的时候，争议四起。在这些情形下，为了现代的需要能够得到满足，现代的发展比历史建筑的保留更应该给予优先权。
Position:Old buildings are best history book of a past society.To protect this valuable record of history, we should strive to preserve the old bildings.However, without considering the contemporary needs, simply preserving all the old buildings seems inappropriate.Therefore, we need to make a comprehensive evaluation about which is more important between the presevation of old buildings and the mordern development.
论据：1)No one can deny the importance of preserving an old building.历史瑰宝：The fobidden city,and pyramid in Egypt, and white house in U.S.,etc.普通的老建筑：Peking quadrangle dwellings,
      2)equally important, mordern needs should be served.public transportation, modern buildings, and public facilities, and energy plant etc.
      3)to over exaggerate its value is inappropriate, whether it's saving an old building or building a modern facility.like some old, dilapidated building without much value of history. or an insignificant or dispensible modern building.
      4)when we are facing a nerve-wracking dilemma that we have to give precedence to whether keeping an old building or serving an modern meeds, there is always a comparison involved and then a compromise reachs.two examples:1)the peking quadrangle dewellings are being destroyed.maybe in the future, we can only watch it in the museum.2) the three gorges project in China.Considering its great benefit, to build this projec is totally worthy.
In conclusion, we can not oversimplify the choice we make. Instead, we need to be fullly aware that what we are going to lose and win if we give up the old building to serve the modern needs.Always a good evaluation need to be done, before the final decision is made.

大多数人都同意一个社会的建筑物代表了它有价值的历史记录，但是当现代规划者们觉得这些以前的建筑物所占据的土地可以被更有价值的使用于新目的时，就产生了争议，现代发展应该比保留历史建筑物更受重视以便于满足眼下的要求。
Position：Even though modern development is important for contemporary people to improve the standard of living, the preservation of historic buildings should not give way to the modern purpose when they are contradictory to each other. In fact, under many circumstance, historic buildings can facilitate modern development.
Point one: the important of modern development. argument1: modernlization can creation employment opportunities and ensue facilitate living standard. argument2: modernization can expand our life expectance and improve medical treatment, even if you are badly injured; there is a high possibility that you will be rescued. Argument 3:morderlization make it possible to travel around the world. The advance of transportation makes you free to wherever you want in a short time.
Point two: the necessary for us to preservation historic buildings. argument1: to remember past. argument 2: an architecture . argument3: relics to attract tourists.
point three: the historic building is not necessarily impede modernization. We can make the historic building serve the purpose of modernization with some specific ways.
