Is the chief benefit of the study of history to break down the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from people who lived at any other time in history, as the speaker assert(复述命题是,最好不要原版照抄,最好用自己的语言重新组织)? In a sense, I agree with the statement partly(in a sense 和 partly 有点重复了). people lived at any time in history are different, but nowadays society is actually an extension or new iteration of the past(赞), or a variation on it. Otherwise(这里应该没有转折的意思吧?最好换个连接词,比如,what’s more, apart from this merit\benefit,), the study of history benefits people in many ways.
First, each society actually develop from the past and it is a lasting process. As the result of the accelerated pace of scientific development and the passage of time, some traditions, beliefs and customs have been lost, but most of them have been retained. For example, the Ching Ming Festival in the spring and Chung Yeung Festival on the ninth day of the ninth month in China(这句话我好像在网上看过。。不过作者好像改动了,这个方法不错啊,学习之), which are occasions for visiting ancestral graves, still retained. An even more remarkable example is Christmas Day which is the day that people will go to church
and get together to celebrate. Thus, although people in one period of time varies in many was\ways from people who lived at any other time in history, something have been still retained(换句话比较好,比如many persistent values ,traditions and institutions are common ).
Second, many tradition haven been maintained in history, however, it is undeniable that people are significant different in every period of history in some realms. Societies' attitudes toward women, homosexuality, ethnic, minorities, animals and the environment have continually evolved.(这句话我好像也见过。。 ) For example, in ancient China, people always considered that ignorance is the women's virtue which reveal the extremely discrimination against women. But after the industrial evolution, woman can work in the factory as the man and they 删could earn the affluent wage in many part\parts of society, which promote the social statue of women. Moreover, take the homosexuality for an example; homosexuality was once considered a form of mental illness in history. Moreover(moreover用的有点多了。。), homosexual relationship and acts have been contemned throughout recorded history. But through the development of the society and psychology, most countries have deleted homosexuality from its official list of mental disorders. Social acceptance of homosexual people progressed in the 20 century. Therefore, cultural mores, customs, values and ideals have changed greatly in history.
Third, the statement that the chief benefit of the study of history is to break down the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from people who lived at any other time in history is limited. History actually is also the guideposts to a better understanding of our own future. In the Prince, 16th century Italian philosopher Machiavelli wrote, "whoever wished to foresee the future must consult the past, for human events ever resemble those of preceding times." Thus, history, in other words, can tell us much about future. For instance, most of the forecast we deal with today, such as those that inform military or business policy, such as Nostradamys's prophecy, actually use history because the prophets assume a connection among the past, present and future events. As we know, the types of connection on which predictions are based as well as the success rate of those predictions, very hugely.
To sum up, I do agree that many things have been maintained in history, however; many things have changed too. And the speaker ignores the other benefit of study of history. beings.(建议最后一段重新写,观点表达的不是很清楚)
