What is the best way to judge a person? How can we tell whether one is worthy to make friend with? Moreover, by what means can we tell about a society's idea and character? Many people might agree with the way to observe and pay attention to their dress, look and act. But I think it is not enough.
For a part of people, their dress and appearance indeed show their attitudes and tastes. And in(可删) Generally, people belong to a special group have some common characters. For instance, people from different countries dress differently. The French(Frenchmen) dress romantically, the Americans dress at will and the Japanese are more formally. From these we can see difference(differences) on them. (这段没有长句,或许两句可以合并,The differences between them, that the Frenchmen dress romantically, the Americans dress at will and the Japanese are more formally, reflect their characters)(Therefore), Franch(France) is always the representation of romance, while American culture values include material comfort and Japanese are usually cautious.
Yet, as the old words(saying) that men can not (be) judged by their looks, noted by ancient Chinese, we could not exactly tell a person's inside just by what(how) he or she looks like. Because many people do not care much about their appearance(appearances). For example, we may think a wall streeter who is dressed simplicity to an ordinary worker. When seeing the picture of Albert Einstein's grimace, we could easily connect him with a funny geezer, not(rather than会更好点) one of the most famous scientists in the world. So appearance (does) not counts much.
Furthermore, men in society would be interdicted(不太明白这个词在这是什么意思) from acting. In the Social Psychology, written by Kurt Lewin who was a famous German psychologist, (the)author detailed explain(explained, explains) how people lost their characters when they affiliated a society. For example, in many societies, people of high rank reserve special items of clothing or decoration for themselves as symbols of their social status. In ancient times, only Roman senators could wear garments dyed with purple; only high-ranking Hawaiian chiefs could wear feather cloaks or carved whale teeth; Under the Travancore kingdom, lower caste women had to pay a tax for the right to cover their upper body; In China before the establishment of the republic, only the emperor could wear yellow.
(举例很棒)These kinds of effect forced by groups or societies can not represent people's real will.
Above all, people’s looks can show their tastes and values to some degree, but not all. If you want to understand someone or a society thoroughly, the best way will not be observing around, but rather going into them. |
