独立作文
If a child wants to do well in school, parents should limit the hours of watching TV programs or movies

Back when I was a child, I would rather spend all my time watching the epic fights in Transformers and fascinating adventures of the four ninja turtles and imaging myself to be BraveStarr roaring down the street at a speed of puma.At seven o’clock Mother would always come and turn off the TV set and say to my disappointed pouts:” Time for homework.”

As a discontented child, I thought many atime why Mother would limit my hours of joy, my only freedom. The answer didn’t come to me until my primary school reunion almost tens after graduation. It was astonishing to find virtually all the high school drop-outs, who I envied for having so much time watching whatever they wanted, share one thing in common:lack of family discipline.

So the answer is now clear: academic success is absolutely related to parental guidance, especially in the choosingof extra-curriculum activities. I still remember the days before my sense ofmoral began to develop, I pursuit things as “awesome” or something that the coolest children were crazy about, such as cartoons full of violence and talk shows with adult jokes, rather than what was right and should be done. School was considered as boring and it was a real shame to be a good boy of Mama.

As now I clearly see, wayward children are lack of self-control and judgment. They are inexperienced human beings that need to be carefully guided to the royal road of geometry but not the path to delinquency. If I were a father, I would be glad to see my children spend moretime on books that help them better understand life and the world or games that encourage team-play and improve physical health, rather than sitting in front of TV, watching improper content, growing overweight and facing academic failure.

Do you agree or disagree?
Do you agree or not with followingstatement: most people solve their important problems by themselves or with the help from their families; the help from government is not necessary.

Every day, we face various problems: major or minor, same or different. Most of them can be easily solved on an individual base, especially by using the latest technologies, such as referring to internet maps for the nearest hospital instead of asking the way.

For those problems that lie beyond individual capacity, help from family members offer the quickest possible solution. If someone plans to start his own business, he can borrow from relatives without going through all the complex procedures of state-owned banks. It seems that the help from the government is not necessary. This, however, is not always the case.

Take the recent tsunami that hit japan as an example. The 9.0 magnitude earthquake took place off the Japanese east coast and it led to an overwhelming tsunami that, after devouring thousands of lives, damaged a nuclear station and caused severe leakage. To deal with this catastrophe, Japan was mobilized at national level: Troops were dispatched to rescue survivors, scientists assembled to investigate possibilities of further contamination and media summoned to cover the latest news. Such calamity was much too complicated for an individual or their family to tackle.

We could imagine what would happen, if the government had chosen to look on and let people and their family confront such an occurrence by themselves. The first scene that came to me was horror, for facing such formidable natural power, a single human being is really trivial. After it came chaos. The horror would no doubt aggravate the fear of death and selfishness. We have seen this during the “salt rush” of Japan and several neighboring nations where families feared nuclear radiation and tried all means to buy overpriced salt. Without the governmental interference, salt price would rocket and once a noticeable percent of people could not afford the price, those countries they lived in would be put on edge. As a result, not only Japan but the whole East Asia could be chaotic.

Although the use of the latest technologies and kindness from relatives can solve most of the problems, there are certain issues can only be tackled at national level. Without governmental aid, problems can turn out to be catastrophic. Therefore, the help from government is absolutely necessary.

It’s more important for the government to build art museums and music performance centers than to build recreational devices, such as swimming pool and playgrounds.

There are two aspects to consider when it comes to building public facilities. The government is expected to be responsible for either constructing cultural facilities, like art museums and music performance centers, places where essence of human culture is preserved; or recreational devices, such as swimming pools and playgrounds, which meet the need of the public. Of course, everyone wants both of them. But when the budget is tight and priority must be taken into account, answers may vary from one person toanother.

Some people would favor a nice day with children on the playground over staring at Da Vinci’s works and deciphering his code. They believe that since the government is for the people, it should provide what the mass wants.

Unlike them, I believe building art museums and music performance centers best facilitates government functions. The opposite of this is a waste of resources, in that recreational devices can be built by commercial organizations.

In my neighborhood, I would expect convenient access to art museums and since those facilities hardly generate enough income to cover its operational spending, no profit-driven companies would offer to do so. Hence, if the government didn’t build such facilities, no one would do it. And if no one did it, how could we educate our children? Could we educate them just by playing hide-and-seek on the playground or swimming in the water? I do not mean that being sociable or physically fit is no good. But ants are more sociable than us and dolphins swim way faster! What makes us human beings is that we pass down our culture, redefine it and evolve it.

Although I would like to see recreational devices in my neighborhood, it is commercial organizations to take this task. The government is obliged to fulfill its cause of protecting cultural heritage. If this were not done, after a number of generations, we humans would be no better than fidgeting ants and awkward dolphins. Therefore building cultural facilities must be placed at the top of government’s agenda.
