In recent years, with the development of technology, more and more people are too busy to have an eye for arts. So people are starting to find a way to survive arts. And government funding of arts seems to be a good idea. But some people believe that government funding of the arts is necessary to ensure that arts can flourish and be available to all people. Others hold the idea that it threatens the integrity of the arts. Both sides seem to have their reasons, so we should take a deep look at them.

Those who support government funding of the arts start to argue by presenting the current state of arts. For an instance, in China, there are many old traditional forms of arts that can't continue to develop. The reasons for this varies. First, most of these traditional arts are passed down from generation to generation, so a certain form of arts is known to only a few people. Usually, these few people don't have the money and impact to transmit the arts. So the arts have few opportunities to flourish. Let alone are they available to other people. Further more, with the development of our society, people now have fewer and fewer time to consider about things besides their jobs and welfares. So, there is little focus on the arts and little room for the arts to flourish.
All the above call for a solution to reactivate arts. As a consequence of government funding, many forms of arts have the money and material conditions to develop. Moreover, with the power of the government, artists can seize the chance to propagate their arts. For example ,they can set up art expositions in the major city with the help of the government to attract people's attentions. This will surely arouse great impact among people. And it will not only contribute to arts' developments, but also make arts available to many people.

On the contrary, some people hole the belief that government funding threatens the integrity of the arts . This is because, as the government has put money in the arts, arts' development will inevitably take the government's willing into account. So instead of developing from all aspects, the arts will develop in a direction set by the government. What’s worse is that, some forms f arts may disappear as they don't satisfy the government's interest. Many old traditional handcrafts serve as good examples. They disappear as they don't suit the government's appeal for high speed and high technology manufacture. Moreover, not all aspects of arts can get the same amount of money from the government. So different fields of arts face different opportunities to develop. In this case, the help from the government causes an imbalance in the development of arts, which has a bad influence on arts’ integrity. All of these conclude to one argument that government funding of arts will threaten the integrity of the arts.

To conclude, as both sides have an element of truth, the government should take a deep consideration on how and to what extent it will play a role in arts' flourishing.
