Is to accept responsibility for mistake the most important characteristic for politics? There has been an intense dispute over this controversial issue. Different people holds different views due to their distinctive culture, value, education background and so forth. As far as I'm concerned, maybe accept responsibility for mistake is a valuable characteristic, it is not the most important one. My views can be greatly substantiated by the following discussions.
On the one hand, I agree that it is important for politics to accept responsibility for mistake. No body is perfect. Even great person would make mistakes. But they do know what can they learn from a mistake. They always make some self-reflection after make a mistake. For instance, before Edison invented the electric light bulb, he had tried thousands of materials and then had
done thousands of experiments, but finally he succeed. This is because of his self-reflection after every trail, each failure talks him which kind of material was not suitable. Maybe politics is not like a single person, but it is also wrong to deny the mistake they have made. If a government do not brave to admit their fault, they will make mistake again and again. In other words, to accept responsibility for mistake can make the government to move on.
On the other hand, I have to point out that the author overstates accept responsibility for mistake’s comparative significance, fails to consider other essential factors. It is hard to say which characteristic is the most important and which one is the least, as there are many important characteristics for politics, for example, honesty, trustworthy, incorruptness and so forth. Each of these characteristics are like a piece of board of a barrel, if there is one board to be shorter than others, water in the barrel would flow out. Hence, if the government cheat people, and civil know nothing about what happened in the country, even though officials are doing beneficial things, how could people trust them? Then the government would lose public trust, just as what are happening in China, it would need several decades' effort to get public trust back.
All in all, the issue of whether to accept responsibility for mistake the most important characteristic for politics is a controversial one, thousands of people may possess thousands ideas. Consequently, there is no easy answer. By the discussions above, we can finally reach the conclusion that even though to accept responsibility for mistake is a valuable characteristic for politics, it is not the most important one, there are many essential characteristics which are equal important as it.
