The luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

The speaker’s claim that the conveniences of contemporary life preventing people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals makes sense. However, I personally do not agree with the speaker’s argument that the luxuries of contemporary life preventing people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals. Rather, the luxuries of contemporary life make individuals becoming truly independent and strong.

Before the discussion of this topic, it needs to first define the two terms: the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life. The luxuries of contemporary life refers to the products or goods’ selling price is unreasonable higher than the normal products and is not necessary for maintaining human life; the conveniences of contemporary life refers to the products or innovations that advance people living standards. The former facilitates people to develop to be truly independent and strong individuals. 要獲得OR維持奢華的現代生活，人們必須擁有比正常人更高的賺錢能力。要得到這個能力，人們必須要使自己變得更強大和更獨立。For example: Stanley Ho，一個香港的億萬富豪， confesses 為了讓自己變成強大和獨立，他花費了一段很長時間學習世界上最主流的7種語言和獨立分析股票市場的能力。因此他擁有能力維持奢華的現代生活。

However, the later condition – the conveniences of the contemporary life – truly affects the people on developing to be strong and independent individuals。現代生活的方便性seriously讓人們產生了依賴性。當現代的產品不能為人們提供本身應有的功能，人們便失去處理問題的能力。For example: 現代人因為過份依賴電飯煲，他們自己作飯的能力早已失去了。只要電飯煲不可以正常工作，人們就作不了飯。

王老師的comment: 第一步就是定義清楚luxury and convenience of the modern life 和truly strong and independent individuals; 第二步就是想想有什麼”人”我們會用來做論點, 例如高學歷和低學歷的人; 第三步是不要把luxury會convenience分開來說。這樣的話我們要寫2絛Issues,而不是1絛issue。

以下是修改了的提網:
Before the discussion about this topic, it is necessarily to clarify luxuries and conveniences of the modern life, and truly strong and independent individuals. The former is defined as the innovations or products that are not available in the past and are used by the people in contemporary life. The latter refers to individuals’ abilities have been strengthened. The speaker claims that the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life preventing people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals. However, whether the people fail to develop to be strong and independent individuals is contingence on the type of people who we are talking about. Three main-categories and six sub-categories of people will be used to demonstrate the relationship between the above two variables.

The first category of people - who are going to be discussed - is related to their education levels. Compared with the uneducated people, the well-educated people become strong and independent individuals while living in the luxuries and conveniences of modern life because of the relative high level of self-discipline. The well-educated people know how to manage or use the modern conveniences or luxuries to strengthen their ability. On the contrary, the uneducated people become addicted to the modern conveniences or luxuries, which prevent them to develop to be strong and independent individuals. For example, researchers and scholars use Google – a search engine that is not available in the past – to search the information related to their field and hence they would gain a better picture about the field’s knowledge. However, on the contrary, those who are unskilled laborers such as cleaners and cooks use Google to search information to entertain them – rather than use the searching engine to strengthen their personal skills – fail to become strong and independent individuals.

The second category of people is related to the lifestyles of the individuals. Some of the individuals have a strong favor to develop and to manage a healthy lifestyle by living in the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life. On the contrary, the rest of the people are indulging their life though living in the modern life. 相對地, 利用現代生活去強化自己的人較享受現代生活的人有較高的自律性。他們利用現代生活去強化自己, 使自己變成一個更強大和獨立的人。For example: 注重健康生活的人會利用automobile – 一個現代發明的代步產品 – 前向健身房健身; 不注重健康生活的人享受automobile 帶來的方便。在這一情況之下, 前者會變得更加強大和獨立; 後者側變得放縱生活。

The third category of people is going to be discussed related to their incomes. While the high-income individuals use the luxuries and conveniences of the modern life to facilitate them to made additional profit, the lower-income individuals are addicted to the modern life because of relative low self-discipline. 高收入的人士不斷運來現代生活帶來的方便進行更多的交易活動, 從而提升自己在該領域的影響力和處事能力。相反地, 低收入的人士只會單單運用現代生活的方便性entertain自己。For example: 高收入人士利用飛機 – 一個現代化的跨国交通工具 – 前往外國進行經贸生意。從而提升自己在現行領域的知識。相反地, 低收入人士只會單單運用飛機前往外地娱樂。他們的個人能力並沒有變得更強大和獨立。
