119. When old buildings stand on ground that modern planners feel could be better used for modern purposes, modern development should be given precedence over the preservation of historic buildings.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

My outline:

TS:
With the development of the society, the number of available lands in our city decreasing rapidly, which renders modern planners attempt to construct new buildings on the land that occupied by old buildings. From my perspective, I hold the view that it depends the type of the architecture. For those buildings that are too old to be repaired and have no values for people, pulling them down and constructing new ones is a better choice; for those buildings that have comprehensive cultural meanings and even become a logo of a country, it is better to preserve them. Finally, for those buildings that really need to get repaired while repairing too much may render them loose the historical values, people should try their best to make transformation for them in order to let them have their new values.

值得肯定的是楼主提出了一个有层次且复杂的观点并在中间段逐个论述

TS1:
To begin with, people should pull down the buildings that are too old to be repaired and don’t have any values for people and build new ones instead. Firstly, clear this kind of old house make positive contribution to the environmental sanitation. 举例子：年久失修的老旧房屋内会滋生很多的细菌，有很多的有害动物的产生，比如老鼠，苍蝇等。清除这些房屋有利于环境卫生。Secondly, constructing new buildings could alleviate the living problems of people, which lay the foundation for the development of society. 举例子：根据Maslow的需求理论，人们只有在基本需求解决之后才会有更高追求，住房问题是基本需求。住房问题缓解后人们会更加努力投身于工作，从而对社会发展有积极影响。

题目里提到historic buildings 就暗指old building 是有historical value  你这里说 don’t have any values for people  明显不符合题意啊

TS2:
Further, people should try their best to protect those architectures which owns comprehensive culture values and sometimes even can represent the cultural of a certain country. 举例子：北京的四合院(quadrangle), 紫禁城和故宫，分别代表着普通中国人和帝王贵族的生活情况，见证着中国的兴衰，因此，保留这些房子是有利的。

TS3:
Finally, for those building that need to be repaired while their culture values will be lost if people simply pull them down, it is better for us to make transformation so that it can have new values. 举例子：建于民国时期的南京的大华戏院拥有着深厚的历史价值，但是年久失修，人们成功地在保留历史价值的前提下对其进行现代化改造，让其现在成为了一个具有古典风格的现代戏院。

make transformation 不明白你的意思

你提出的具体例子挺不错的
或许可以分作两种情况来讨论  如果是像故宫这样的一大片古建筑群就应该尽可能的保护其原貌因为建筑与其所处的环境密不可分  这时城市规划者也应该避开这类地区  还可以讲一下旅游与科研的价值等等

如果是单独的古建筑可以考虑进行transform 保留其外在，对内部进行装修现代化

针对上述的情况可以提出另一种方案就是另觅地方进行仿造

感觉这道题要写好最好先做一些调研

根据老师的点评意见我对我的立意结构进行了思考，有以下几点想法，希望老师不吝指正：
1，关于第一点，我的意思是那些年久失修的古建筑应该拆掉，之前用no values 本意是想让这种表达理由更强烈一些，却忘了historic本身已经具有价值，但我在这里又想把这个观点留下想体现正反两面的复杂性，却在后面发现可能和前文出现矛盾，不知道这里应该怎么改合适。

2，按照老师的思路我有了重新的立意：按照建筑所在的位置来分
1）对于那些建筑占地保护后的历史价值大于保留拆除他的经济价值：严格保护举例子：故宫
2）对于那些保护建筑后原本历史价值小于经济价值：
a)改造，让他既具有经济价值又具有历史价值，比如：南京大华戏院（具体例子在初稿里有）
b)拆除或异地重建，例如位于乌鲁木齐市中心的长桥饮马是著名历史雕塑，但因处于市中心，拆除开发商业比保护更有价值，于是市政府另谋其址，重新仿造了一个。
