Vacancy: 1-2 PhD Candidates (Spring and/or Fall 2023); 1 Postdoc (Fall 2022)

We are looking for highly creative and highly motivated candidates in broad areas of robotics, biomedical engineering, soft materials, advanced manufacturing, and machine learning. Candidates with strong Engineering background (e.g., EE, BME, ME, MSE, PhyE, ChemE) are welcomed to apply. The candidates (for PhD application) with high GPA, class ranking, and research experience/achievement will be given high priority. Information about the PI’s team:
The PI, Yajing Shen, will be an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with effective on Sept. 1, 2022. Before that, he worked as Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at The City University of Hong Kong. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, Distinguish lecture of IEEE Robotic and Automation society, an Executive member of China Micro-nano Robot Society, China Coexisting-Cooperative-Cognitive Robot Society, and the Associate Editor of the flagging robotic journal IEEE Trans on Robotics.
Dr. Yajing’s mainly research interests are small/bioinspired robotics/sensors, miniature intelligent systems, and their applications. His team has published more than 100 peer reviewed journal/conference papers, including the top multidisciplinary journal (e.g., Science Robotics, Nature Communications, PNAS), top specialized journal (e.g., IEEE Trans on Robotics), top international conference (e.g., ICRA, IROS), with widely reported by international media, e.g., Associated Press, Thomson Reuters, etc. Many PhD graduates from his lab have been the Professor/Associate Professor in the top university in Mainland China.
