Vacancy: 1-2 PhD Candidates (Spring and/or Fall 2023); 1 Postdoc (Fall 2022)
Scholarship: Fully funded

Requirement:
We are looking for highly creative and highly motivated candidates in broad areas of robotics, biomedical engineering, soft materials, advanced manufacturing, and machine learning. Candidates with strong Engineering background (e.g., EE, BME, ME, MSE, PhyE, ChemE) are welcomed to apply. The candidates (for PhD application) with high GPA, class ranking, and research experience/achievement will be given high priority. Interested candidates please send your CV with publication list, research statement, and contacts of at least 3 references to Prof. Shen (eeyajing@ust.hk). We would contact you in one week for further discussion if you passed the first-round CV screening.

Information about the PI’s team:
The PI, Yajing Shen, will be an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with effective on Sept. 1, 2022. Before that, he worked as Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at The City University of Hong Kong. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, Distinguish lecture of IEEE Robotic and Automation society, an Executive member of China Micro-nano Robot Society, China Coexisting-Cooperative-Cognitive Robot Society, and the Associate Editor of the flagging robotic journal IEEE Trans on Robotics.

Dr. Yajing’s mainly research interests are small/bioinspired robotics/sensors, miniature intelligent systems, and their applications. His team has published more than 100 peer reviewed journal/conference papers, including the top multidisciplinary journal (e.g., Science Robotics, Nature Communications, PNAS), top specialized journal (e.g., IEEE Trans on Robotics), top international conference (e.g., ICRA, IROS), with widely reported by international media, e.g., Associated Press, Thomson Reuters, etc. Many PhD graduates from his lab have been the Professor/Associate Professor in the top university in Mainland China.

移民倾向。加拿大2025 spring 收到了两个offer，分别是mcmaster 的system and technology (有概率coop) Waterloo的ece (非coop) 在纠结选哪个。本人大厂边缘部门三年工作经验～

西安大略Western VS 圭尔夫Guelph

offer： 1、圭尔夫，cybersecurity & threat intelligent 一年制授课硕，圭尔夫在滑铁卢和多伦多附近，是不是实习和工作更多，个人理解这个计算机分支的就业面相对窄，深度相对深，网上信息量很少，请知道的大佬们给点补充。 2、西安大略，ece-software engineering 一年制授课硕，伦敦城市规模中等，位置较远一些，据了解学校和校友资源丰富，但是ece专业几乎所有大学都有，每年学生产量极大，这个ece 软件分支不知道就业面怎么样，大佬们聊聊看。情况：大龄cs行业边缘人，软硬兼吃但都不专业，目标全家留加，先期毕业后先做打工人，所以先用老本行混饭吃，同时拿到这两个offer，大佬们，给点建议，但愿此贴也能给以后的学弟们留下点有用信息。

个人本科专业通信工程倾向于学信号处理或者传感器等不是很想学集成电路就业：读博 7：3，有好的机会想留，没有好的机会也完全接受回国找工。

芬兰赫尔辛基 VS 继续等德国学校出结果

楼主有幸拿了赫尔辛基CS的全奖offer，但是因为本身申请的最初目的是想留下找工的，所以一直想去德国。但是现在五月中旬我所有的德国申请没有一点消息，等待很艰难。在想着要不要接了芬兰的开始准备了。主要原因有几点： 1. 芬兰安全，且学生生活还是很愉快的 2. 芬兰毕业后可以去欧陆其他国家找工但是不知道可行性如何，来求助一下uu们的意见，谢谢大家了?
