The Doctor of Technology (DTech) program offered at Purdue University Northwest is an applied-research based professional doctoral program in the technology field, offering students the opportunity to expand and apply knowledge and research to solve practice-based problems in a number of technology-related fields. Professionals who earn this degree will integrate theory and practice at a high level. This applied research-based degree focuses on problems that industry encounters in practice, for which a solution is unknown and requires a higher level of knowledge and innovation.
This doctoral program prepares professionals who hold diverse roles in the various technology fields. The program will prepare professionals with advanced technology research and development skills and leadership competence who will meet the current and future needs of contemporary industry.
Furthermore, this doctoral program will develop leaders at the highest end of the professional and expertise capability spectrum who are in high demand by start-ups, emerging industries and established corporations operating in the advanced technology arena.
Curriculum Overview
• 90 credit hours required
• 30 credit hours may be transferred from a Master’s degree.
• 18 credit hours of core curriculum
• 24 hours of electives offered by the College of Technology or from relevant courses offered by other Colleges or Schools at Purdue University Northwest
• 18 credit hours earned by successfully proposing and completing an applied dissertation.
Admission Requirements
Requirements for admission into this program include:
• Graduated from an accredited program with a Master’s degree in Technology or a related field.
• Cumulative GPA in Master’s level work (or most recently completed graduate or professional degree) of at least 3.0/4.0 scale.
• In addition, international students will need to provide proof of English proficiency.
• Applicants are expected to provide:
o transcripts of academic work from all institutions attended (baccalaureate and higher, including institutional grade scale)
o 3 letters of recommendation
o statement of purpose
o resume.
