The Information and IntelligentSecurity (IIS) Laboratory is currently seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. studentto join our team for the Spring 2024 intake. Priority will be given to astudent who has a valid US visa/permanent residency/citizenship. The successful candidate will have theopportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the areas of cryptography(preferred) or natural language processing, focusing on addressing criticalcybersecurity and privacy challenges. In addition to these core areas, joiningstudents may also explore exciting research topics listed below: Cryptography: - Developand/or apply cryptographic algorithms to tackle cybersecurity and privacyissues - Explorethe development of Blockchain-based decentralized cryptographic algorithms - UtilizeAI algorithms to identify vulnerabilities in cryptosystems PrivacyPreservation: - Safeguardusers' sensitive data, including usage patterns, location information, andidentities - DevelopAI-based privacy attacks and devise effective countermeasures - Definedifferential privacy frameworks for critical applications Investigationof Cyber Incidents: - Detectand analyze malware that exploits encryption schemes - Conductreverse engineering on network packets to identify malware types and botnets - Predictthe risk of cybercrimes based on existing threats AdversarialMachine Learning: - Adversarialattacks and robustness of machine learning model - Investigateinference and defense on AI systems - Researchgenerative adversarial networks for critical applications This Ph.D.position offers a comprehensive Graduate Assistantship (GA) package, whichincludes a stipend, a tuition waiver, fees, and health insurance coverage forthe Spring and Fall 2024 semesters. The total value of the package amounts to$49,363.50. Summer 2024 support and subsequent years will be contingent uponsatisfactory progress.
