13 "Many of the world’s lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct."

Coinciding with increasing globalization, many of the lesser-known languages are put into the jeopardy of extinction. Yet, a kind of language, no matter how many people speak it, is not only a tool of communication, but also form an essential part of a distinctive culture. Thus, governments of countries in which these languages are used should take primary responsibilities to preserve such languages.

The most significant meaning of a language is not that it is a medium of conveying information among people, but that it is the crucial measure to indicate the essence of a culture. When language is considered as a means of communication, other ones can easily replace it. But when it is viewed as the main tool for transmitting culture heritage, other languages can by no means substitute for it. Lesser-known languages, which are always used in some relatively isolated nations, especially characterize unique cultures quite different form modern society. Such languages reflect the beliefs, thinking patterns, living habits and other customs in these countries to a large extent. In a sense, language is a sign to enhance identification of people in the same nation. Once giving up its own language, a nation’s culture tends to assimilate by external ones and eventually lose its uniqueness. So far, about one third of more than 6000 languages in the world are about to disappear. Since each language has its own history of formation, that means we will lose more than 2000 kinds of culture in the near future! Under this circumstance, governments are called for taking exigent measures to protect those languages.

Another significant aspect of some lesser- known languages is that the study of them means much to academic field, especially in linguistics. Some lesser-known languages are usually native languages of ethnic tribes living in provincial locations where many historical ancient objects are excavated and discovered. Some ancient scripts are caved in these objects like stones, potteries, wood board and the bones of some animals. In order to decipher these scripts, linguists always resort to current local languages as key cues since they are most likely to stems from these ancient languages. Under the help of their interpretation, linguists are able to extrapolate the evolution of human being’s language as well. If such languages are disappeared, there will be no one who can explain real meanings of the historical resources in the future, which is detrimental for academic study. For this reason, national governments must offer sufficient capitals to support perpetuation of such languages.

Since lesser-known languages have such significant bearings on the country, it is reasonable and necessary for their governments to preserve them. To support education is an effective way. Students are required to master their native language at a relatively high level so that they can use them fluently either in daily communication or in their learning experience. In the process of study, they not only learned how to read and write their languages, but also gain an impressive feeling of the essence of their culture. Government, who is in charge of a nation’s education, should try their utmost to foster their education and ensure it to provide students with necessary curriculums concentrating on native language learning. Government also needs to devote money and time to perpetuate their languages in other forms, such as supporting the native literature.

In sum, lesser-known languages are vital part of a nation’s culture and precious tools for academic studies, even they are spoken by fewer and fewer people. If they become extinct, those countries are faced with the danger of losing their own individualities, preservation of our valuable culture heritages are threatened as well. Therefore, governments in these countries should take charge of prevent them from becoming disappeared.

Coinciding with increasing globalization, many of the lesser(less就是比较时态)-known languages are put into (谁put?直接are facing就行了)the jeopardy of extinction.
