186.186"Practicality is now our great idol, which all powers and talents must serve. Anything that is not obviously practical has little value in today's world."

I strongly disagree the author's claim that anything without practical use has little value in today's world. Although practicality is out main idol in modern time, the idealism also plays important role in society and human's development. Without ideals, people can not control themselves to pursue dreams and the whole society will become more confused.

Admittedly, along with the development of the society and increasing demands of people, practicality become an important aim for people's pursuing and make people's lives more convenient. For example, due to the plane, train, cars, telephone being invented, people can associate with other people and know the world more easily, you can travel from Asia to Europe by plane which just spend several hours. You can use Internet and computer to talk with friends who live in different place face-by-face. Moreover, the development of medicine also has significant effect on people's lives. More and more illnesses can be cured and people's lives can be saved. So these practical technology and objects are helpful to people and society.

However, we can not overrate the effect of practicality but pay more attention to some ideas-some valuable researches which sometimes do not depend on practicality but idealism. We, certainly, can not deny these important effects of researches and technology. For example, theory of relativity plays extremely important effects on some scientific research even some fields of practicality though it, actually, is a theory or an idea. Moreover, Einstein invented A-bomb which has great ability of destroying and killing people even the world, but before it was invented, it is only a idea in Einstein's mind. Therefore, without these important ideas, all these products can be found or invented, and the development of the society and human beings also can not develop so fast.

In addition, to some creations of art works, artists prefer satisfing their dreams or ideas to making profits. These works, usually, manifests the beautiful world and good wishes even the pure hearts. Although some artists have less money and do not live comfortably, they do not lose believes and continue to create and accomplish the desire and dream. Take Monet as example, his all life is poor and painful, but he never stop creating his works because works, in his eyes, is his life, his dream, his son. Beethoven, one of the best musicians in the world, creates many great music works including the best famous symphonies. At his old age, he kept creating though his ear is deaf. Why do they remain to do these when they suffer difficulty and pain. Undoubtedly, the idea and the dream becomes the backbone of spirit and makes them struggle to disasters and difficulties.

In sum, from what has been discussed above, we may draw the conclusion that both idealism and practicality are important to our daily lives and development of society. We should pay the same attentions to it in order to make people's lives more beautiful and perfect.
