In today’s fiercely competing society, more and more governments have realized that education has to a great extent determined the level of the development and prosperity of a country. So there is a debate on that education is too crucial to leave solely to a group of professional educators and both parents and communities must be involved in the local schools. I think this is a reasonable advice which is suited to our society.
As we all know, contemporary’s situation require more all-round youths offered by education. Those who only are good at studying without knowing any other things cannot satisfy the need of most of jobs now. So advocating comprehensive education from school, family and society can benefit educatees but also our society. We must know that school, family and society have different functions in educating students and each of them takes an essential part in the whole responsibilities of education. It is said that school can infuse us some basic and systematic knowledge and help us to form a logical and rational thinking model which will benefit our future self-learning. Besides, someone master a skill or technology in a certain field which become his/her living means or an interest through all his/her life. Family education should not be ignored neither, for parents are the first teachers of their children. What parents have done and have said would have a deep influence in their children. So parents should set a good example first and then help children to develop good habits as many as possible. Society should also pay great attention on education by offering a healthier and happier atmosphere and more opportunity to students, fully protecting their legal rights and so on.
However, if education leaves solely to a group of professional educators, what will the education be like? Students can do what they likes outside school, no matter it is good or bad things, no matter whether it makes sense or not, because no one will monitor and instruct them after class. They think they are free and most of them do not know how to employ that spare time effectively and efficiently if there is no adult helping them. They may lack practice experience if they were not attached too much importance to. Then the knowledge that only learns from class is useless.
In this way, only those three aspects interact harmoniously, can our students are offered a high quality of education. Then whether those three will contradict each other? Of course not. In the day time, students mainly absorbed knowledge from teachers in school; during the night, they can get together with family to learn how to live a life; in the rest of their time, they should take part in some collective practice to apply what they have learned into it. As we see, this is a coherent process which would have a great effect on cultivating a well educated people. (487)
