Both the passage and the recording discussthe problem of Turing Test.

In the passage, we know that Alan Turingproposed a test. In the test a group of people are required to interact withsomething which can be either a computer or a human in another room by using acomputer terminal. They can input their questions or speak in the microphone. Thenthe other end responses. If the people cannot judge whether the other end is acomputer or a human being the machine will pass the Turing Test. However, untilnow no computer has passed it though a great deal of prize will aware to thewinner.

At present, however, a philosopher saidthat he could pass the exam by using a Chinese Room. He can let an Englishspeaker be at the other end and let a Chinese speaker in the terminal. If theChinese input in Chinese characters, the English speaker naturally will notunderstand. Thus, the other end will be full of Chinese reference and then ifthe English speaker receive the Chinese input he can only break the Chinesesequences to response by using the reference without understanding them which acomputer can also achieve it. Nonetheless the test itself will becomemeaningless since it do not find out whether the computer can really think.
